The Swarthmore Campus & Community Store is owned and operated by Swarthmore College for the benefit of the Swarthmore College Community. As part of the College, we are here to support the academic mission of the College and to enhance student life. The Store staff strives to provide quality products at competitive prices in a friendly environment.

The opportunity:

The Sales Associate provides reliable and independent assistance in maintaining and selling course materials, supplies, and other merchandise that directly affect the educational experience of students and the relationship experience with the community. This is a part-time position, up to 20 hours per week, not benefits eligible.

Customer Service

• Orders, receives, prices, stores, shelves and returns merchandise and operates the cash register.
• Provides warm and professional customer service, exhibiting that customer assistance takes precedence over administrative and merchandising tasks.
• Assists in phone and email support.
• Greets all visitors in a manner that promotes a positive College-wide image.
• Answers questions and gives directions to provide correct information.
• Maintains awareness of who is in the store to provide excellent service and to discourage shoplifting.
• Coordinates with other staff members to insure efficiency, speed, and accuracy in receiving, shelving, storing, and returning merchandise.
• Assists with unloading merchandise from deliveries and unpacking boxes.
• Checks merchandise received against purchase orders. Contacts vendors when orders are short or missing.
• Gives appropriate paperwork to Operations manager or Assistant Director for processing.

• Effective interpersonal and communication skills, as well as flexibility to perform duties in a position that has constant interruptions.
• Are detail oriented and have some mathematical skills.
• Builds successful relationships with campus and community visitors.
• Communicates and works effectively as a team member.
• Exhibits maturity, reliability, composure, and stability under pressure in order to handle on-the-job challenges.

What you bring:

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1 year of experience, preferably in service organization.
• Must have the ability to unload trucks and lift up to 50 pounds, bend and stoop to stock low shelves, and stand for long periods of time.
