The University of Washington’s School of Pharmacy invites applications for a 12 month, 100% FTE position as Clinical Instructor with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2022. This is an annual appointment. The successful candidate will prepare and develop as a clinician-educator to take on an academic career in Schools/ Colleges of Pharmacy, with a primary focus on instructional development and academic leadership training.

Who should consider this fellowship: Pharmacists interested in development as a clinician-educator, including the instructional methods, experiential learning, and mentoring, to prepare for a career in academia or clinical practice. Co-Directors - Lingtak-Neander Chan, PharmD, BCNSP, FCCP, and Peggy Odegard, PharmD, CDCES

Objectives:

  • To engage and participate in the process and leadership of academic and student affairs. (~50%)
  • To develop and refine classroom teaching skills by using different pedagogical approaches, through instructional involvement in various courses. (~40%)
  • To develop knowledge and skills in the design, directing, and coordination of courses in a pharmacy curriculum. (~10%)
Expected responsibilities:

  • Engage in the coordination and instruction through the entire academic year (3 academic quarters)
  • Serves as a co-coursemaster in one elective course
  • Participate in the direct instruction, or student assessment process in at least one more course in at least 2 academic quarters
  • Participate in and contribute to Curriculum Committee, Assessment Committee, Admission Committee, and the student Professional Development Program
  • Serve as a mentor and preceptor in interprofessional education events (IPE), community engagement, and clinical-based student activities
  • Participate in ongoing curriculum and assessment-based projects
Other opportunities:

  • Working with coursemasters in the Department of Pharmacy to help develop course content, or provide supplemental instructional support to facilitate continuous quality improvement
  • Participate in ongoing assessment projects within the UWSOP
  • Serves as a preceptor in IPE course and community engagement activities at least once every quarter
Qualifications

PharmD degree and PGY1 completion.  PGY2 completion preferred.  Eligible for pharmacist licensure in WA. Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience
