Communications Advisor

 

The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) seeks a communications advisor to conceive, develop, and lead the implementation of communications strategies for key OVPR initiatives, managing their launch and progress and assessing outcomes.

 

Will work with other communications professionals across the Institute, including the Institute Office of Communications, to develop and implement communications plans; provide advice on communications issues to other members of the OVPR senior team; and coordinate media queries for OVPR with the Institute Office of Communications. Writing will also be a key focus of this role, including writing and/or editing speeches; statements; key messages; fact sheets; briefing documents; MIT News stories; newsletter articles; letters to the community; op-eds; white papers; digital, social, and web content; and other public communications for multiple audiences. Will also be called upon to support the operations and activities of the MIT Climate Nucleus and the MIT Climate Steering Committee, which are described in MIT’s Fast Forward plan.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least five years of experience in strategic communications, public affairs, journalism, or related field
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Ability to write clearly and effectively under deadline pressure and to distill complex information into compelling, accessible written communications
  • Strong oral communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Appreciation for the distinctive culture and values of MIT
  •  

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with and/or interest in working on climate change and sustainability-related issues
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud, MailChimp, Drupal, and Qualtrics
  • Proficiency with a range of communication platforms, including print, video, photography, audio, email, social media, and web  
  •
