Summary

Peer Navigator

VCU School of Social Work is hiring a full-time peer navigator for a one year grant funded youth and young adult shared housing program for LGBTQ+ youth, pregnant and parenting youth and youth at the intersection experiencing homelessness.

Typical Duties

The person in this position will work with the program participants on goal setting and goal achievement, peer support, group facilitation, navigating systems and daily tasks that peer support can help ease the stress of, such as learning how to navigate public transportation, attending appointments, and accessing services. The person in this position will also coordinate staff activities, assist with documentation and serve as a liaison between the program and program partners. This position has been identified as an essential component of a successful program team serving youth by the young people on our planning team.

Typical Education and Experience

Requirements:

Basic computer literacy – Microsoft Office
Mediation skills
Good communication skills
Experience and high level of comfort working with LGBTQ+ youth, pregnant/parenting youth, and/or youth of color experiencing homelessness
Lived experience expertise regarding homelessness

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with Richmond area & local resources
Experience and/or training in trauma-informed care or restorative practices

Salary Range: $55,000 annual salary, non-negotiable, grant funded
