Job Description

The Missouri Western State University music area seeks an outstanding educator with a broad range of teaching and professional experience – spanning music production, recording, engineering, and performance for the position of Instructor of Music Technology (non Tenure Track). The successful candidate will be able to work effectively with faculty colleagues, and will be able to recruit and inspire undergraduate students in a professionally-oriented educational environment. Salary is competitive and dependent on qualifications and experience. Missouri Western has been an All Steinway School since 2010.

Instructors teach in discipline areas in which he or she has specific training and competence. The instructor is expected to plan, organize, and teach in a manner that facilitates student learning in keeping with the learning-centered values and goals of the university.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
  • Teaching a variety of music courses as assigned by the department chairperson including courses in the area of music technology
  • Studio teaching of applied music to music majors and non-majors in area of expertise
  • Manage all technical aspects of student and faculty music technology needs and serve as the point of contact for the area for equipment and technical support
  • Maintain functionality, coordinate use, and oversee inventory of music technology equipment. The current equipment includes cameras, consoles, microphones, recording and mixing hardware, computer software/hardware and systems, etc.
  • Oversee student workers who provide support for technology needs
  • Service on School of Fine Arts and University committees
  • Participation in SFA meetings, recital hearings, juries, auditions, and recruitment activities is expected
  • Teaching: teach undergraduate and graduate students in a specific field of expertise; participation in programs that promote instructional development in the discipline; develop and manage curricular materials, ensuring that they meet departmental and university standards; participation in campus initiatives related to teaching such as learning communities, honors programs, and applied learning.
  • Scholarship: applies current knowledge and innovations to important practices, and focuses on the nature and improvement of teaching.
  • Service: document students’ attendance, participation, and academic progress by giving and grading assignments, projects, quizzes and/or examinations that lead to a final grade; plan and create lectures, in-class activities, and assignments; maintain currency in one’s area of expertise and discipline; provide academic advising and support related to the academic progress of students; is accessible to students outside the classroom, providing ample periods of time for counseling and mentoring students in matters related to academic success; engage in service activities in support of departmental, college, and university needs; service supporting community outreach; and service to relevant professional organizations; participate in student recruitment efforts as assigned.

  • Clearly understands curriculum design, pedagogy, and learning outcomes assessment
Required Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Music
  • Knowledge and understanding of the latest trends in music technology and music production Interest in building partnerships across campus and with local schools and communities
  • Appropriate scholarship including publications, conferences, presentations, and/or panels
  • Ability to use instructional technologies in support of student learning and professional collaboration
  • Ability to analyze data to inform teaching and program improvement
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching experience in higher education
  • Terminal degree in music Piano, percussion, or voice as area of expertise
  • Artist/teacher with a growing or established national/international reputation as a performer and demonstrated evidence of successful teaching and recruitment
  • Experience as a collaborative pianist
  • Ability to teach undergraduate level group piano sequence
  • Experience, training, and/or certification in working with students with exceptional abilities
  • Experience teaching in face to face and virtual settings
  • Experience leading undergraduate capstone experiences
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-bias in education, and a knowledge and interest in how they relate to academic music curricula
