The ideal candidate would enrich our curriculum through vibrant teaching in methods conversant with inclusive pedagogy and creative critical practices. In addition to teaching introductory film and composition courses, this new professor would be encouraged to design introductory and advanced courses that derive from their research interests. Teaching load is 3-3. The successful candidate would be expected to mentor students, participate in (and ideally initiate) co-curricular activities, and contribute to departmental service. Hendrix seeks to extend its tradition of excellence in teaching and scholarship by attracting faculty who combine mastery of their disciplines with broad intellectual interests and commitment to the aims of a liberal arts college.
We welcome applications from those who hold a Ph.D or are nearing completion of their dissertation. Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching effectiveness or statement of teaching interests, and graduate school transcripts (unofficial are acceptable). The letter should address the following: approach to teaching film/media studies courses; research within film and media studies; ability to contribute to an inclusive, welcoming, and diverse community; and interest in teaching in a demanding liberal arts environment. In addition, three letters of recommendation should be sent by email to facultyrecs@hendrix.edu. Address materials to Dr. Alex Vernon, Department of English and search committee chair: www.hendrix.edu/jobs. Review of completed applications begins on Friday, June 17, and will continue until the position is filled.
