Job Summary/Basic Function

Millersville University of Pennsylvania is recruiting for a Director of Online Programs. The person selected for this position will provide strategic leadership for planning, development, and management of a results-oriented effort to significantly grow online programs for undergraduate and graduate students. The director will work closely and collaboratively with academic administrators, faculty, and staff. Duties will include identifying new markets, working with faculty and instructional design support to develop courses and programs, recruiting students, and managing student support services. The director will ensure quality online programs by instituting a feedback and evaluation system for continuous improvement that includes emphasis on program completion. The director will build all necessary support services to ensure quality teaching and learning for faculty and students, and manage budget and personnel aligned with program growth.

The director will ensure that the online programs embody the core values of the University: Exploration, Professionalism, Public Mission, Integrity, and Compassion ( EPPIC ).

Located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Millersville University of Pennsylvania is one of the 14 public universities of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education. Annual Salary: $68,000.00 – $78,000.00, plus comprehensive benefits starting on the first day of employment, including:
  • Health insurance – Low bi-weekly premium, with coverage starting on the first day of employment for employee and all dependents.
  • Dental insurance – Coverage is free to employee and dependents with coverage starting on the first day of employment.
  • Vision insurance – Coverage is free to employee and dependents with coverage starting on the first day of employment.
  • Group life insurance – Equal to annual salary (up to $50,000) at no cost to the employee.
  • Voluntary Group Life and Accident Insurance – Available for purchase at low rates for additional employee coverage as well as coverage for spouse and children.
  • Long Term Disability Insurance – Available for purchase at low rates with either a 90 or 180-day waiting period.
  • Retirement – 2 plans to choose from.
  • Tuition waiver – For employee, spouse, and dependents.
  • Personal leave – Up to 6 days per year.
  • Vacation leave – Up to 10.4 days accrued per year for first year, increases to 15.6 days per year after 1 year.
  • Sick leave – Up to 15.6 days accrued per year, including up to 5 days per year that can be taken to care for a family member.
  • Holiday leave – 12 days per calendar year.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Three years of successful experience in the coordination, implementation and management of online education within higher education.
  • Demonstrated:
    • proficiency in budget development and management.
    • understanding on online and technology mediated pedagogy and tools.
    • knowledge and understanding of multiple online education delivery systems including online learning management systems (Desire2Learn, Blackboard, Moodle Rooms, etc.), continuing education classrooms and appropriate social media sites.
    • knowledge and understanding of new and existing markets for online programs.
    • ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • ability to provide customer service and work collaboratively as a resource for diverse groups of people at various levels both internal and external to the university.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, particularly the skill to persuade and motivate faculty and staff to join and participate in the new online program.
  • Excellent oral, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Successful interview.
  • Successful completion of three background checks.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree.
  • Successful experience utilizing market research to develop and market new programs.
  • Experience with program assessment.
  • Experience with State Authorization processes.
