Student Peer Assistant - Math Emporium (South Lake)

LSSC student employee supervisors will work with student employees on their work schedules to ensure that education is the priority.

The Math Emporium Student Peer Assistant will provide instructional assistance to the students, faculty, and Math Emporium Coordinator in the LSSC Math Emporiums.

This position is located on the South Lake Campus and reports to the Math Emporium Coordinator.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The Peer Assistant will provide instructional assistance to the students, faculty, and Math Emporium Coordinator in the LSSC Math Emporiums. Responsible for demonstrating LSSC’s values of learning, people, student success, forward thinking, commitment to excellence, accessibility, diversity, partnerships, and sound management practices. Increased knowledge of mathematical thinking and concepts along with a stronger ability to use problem solving skills. Strengthening of interpersonal skills and personal responsibility.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Provide general assistance and tutoring to students in the Math Emporium.
  • Assist students with MyMathLab software.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the lab.
  • Assist students with resolving computer problems; including contacting the Math Emporium Coordinator and/or IT.
  • Assist Instructors in proctoring Tests.
  • Perform other duties as Assigned.
  • Assignments can include on-campus or remote work, night, and weekend hours as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications & Education
  • Must be a current LSSC student.
  • Must have completed MAC 1105 College Algebra or higher with a grade of “B” or better.
  • Exhibit computer proficiency.
  • Excellent customer service through the ability to assist students.
  • Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with peers.
