Job context:
The Limited Term Researcher (LTR) position is required to assist with and oversee the laboratory management of Dr. Jeffrey Caplan's research group. The LTR will directly report to Dr. Caplan, Associate Professor for the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences. The LTR will assist with maintaining a high level of research activity that is necessary for the management of the Caplan Lab.
Responsibilities:
• Responsible for managing, reviewing, creating and maintaining best laboratory practices within the Caplan laboratory. This includes, managing reagents and ensuring operation compliance using Quartzy, google team drives, Bioraft, and other project management software tools.
• Responsible for inventory management of material and equipment for daily laboratory operations, and if required, for organizing a move of the laboratory to a new space.
• Act as a liaison for third party sources of reagents and equipment during the purchasing, delivery, and installation.
• Assist with developing standard operating procedures and quality control standards, with the related responsibility of troubleshooting protocols, ensuring compliance, calibrating instruments, and organizing workflow spaces.
• Assist with any reporting requirements.
• Assist with recruitment of new personnel by helping with selecting, orienting, and training new laboratory members.
• Involved in all research projects in the Caplan Laboratory that are actively funded. This includes conducting well-defined experiments, interpreting data and writing manuscripts.
• Will work as a team member and will assist Dr. Caplan as needed.
Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Plant Science, Biology ,Chemistry or a related field.
