Ohio University’s Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine is launching a new Office of Faculty Learning and Advancement (OFLA). The mission of the OFLA is to enhance the quality of academic life for HCOM faculty so that they can achieve professional excellence as they fulfill their essential roles in medical education, research, and service.  We are currently advertising 3 new positions for this office in the areas of faculty affairs and faculty development. For all 3 positions, occasional in-state, regional, and national travel is required.

Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine Senior Director of Faculty Learning and Pedagogy

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Faculty, the Senior Director of Faculty Learning and Pedagogy will support the

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Faculty, the Senior Director of Faculty Learning and Pedagogy will support the professional development of Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine faculty to ensure continuous quality improvement in pedagogy and medical education. Major responsibilities of this position include providing leadership, direction and strategic vision for faculty development; supporting the implementation of initiatives related to the practice of teaching and learning, inclusive excellence, faculty learning communities, assessment of faculty teaching performance including in relation to student outcomes; coordinating and providing support for the medical education research initiative and leading research on the impact of faculty pedagogical training and teaching effectiveness on student outcomes; collaborating with other members of the Office of Faculty and Learning and Advancement and engaging with constituents across the college including academic department leaders, administrative offices including but not limited to the Office of Medical Education, the Office of Medical Education Technology, Office of Research and Grants, and Office of Inclusion. Occasional in-state, regional and national travel is required. The position can be located at any of our campuses (Athens, Dublin, or Cleveland) with a potential for hybrid work options as well.

Requirements:

  • Doctoral degree in education, medicine, applied statistics or related field
  • This position requires an educational foundation of principles and research methods, both qualitative and quantitative, that one who has an advanced degree will have been exposed to and will have applied in the educational setting.
  • 5 years of experience in faculty development focused on teaching and learning, preferably in a doctoral-level health-related program; a proven track record, through peer-reviewed publications, in education-focused research.
  • 3 years of supervisory or managerial responsibilities

The successful candidate will also possess strong skills in the following areas: leadership, verbal and written communication, and analysis and problem solving.
