Hagerstown Community College is pleased to announce that applications are currently being accepted for an Instructional Technologist position.

The Instructional Technologist assists in the administration of HCC’s primary Learning Management System (LMS), and supports learning technology projects on campus. The technologist works with faculty, students, and staff to meet immediate needs related to distance learning and instructional technology.



A. Provide support for faculty and students in use of the LMS

1. Provide support for the Distance Learning/LMS Help Desk

2. Troubleshoot courseware problems for faculty and students

3. Work with faculty to support course building on the LMS

4. Provide support for LMS training

B. Support faculty use of general software for instruction

1. Work with faculty to support distance learning technology needs

2. Assist with group presentations to faculty as requested

C. Provide support for the LT Help Desk for assistance with instructional equipment

D. Assist with installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of instructional equipment

E. Provide tech support for specific events on campus

F. Videotape and/or edit special events on campus

G. Other duties as assigned



An associate degree is required; a bachelor’s degree in Distance Learning, Instructional/Media Technology or a related field is preferred; 2-3 years of experience in academic instructional technology or distance learning; expertise in operation and troubleshooting LMS and other distance learning software, including web-conferencing and screen-capturing; experience in operation and troubleshooting of classroom equipment. Preference given for experience working with D2L Brightspace, Panopto, Camtasia, Adobe Premiere, Extron and Epson equipment, and training end-users.


Good organization skills; competence in the use of computers and standard educational software; ability to operate and troubleshoot technical equipment used in audio-visual settings; ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of staff, students and personnel; ability to deal tactfully, effectively, and fairly with people; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; ability to work independently in the absence of detailed instructions and supervision; ability to handle stressful situations; ability to prioritize and handle multiple competing functions and demands.
