  • Position Summary: The University of Alaska is seeking a Chief Information Technology Officer (CITO). As our CITO, you will help the University of Alaska (UA) system and its three separately accredited institutions (UAA, UAF and UAS), by anticipating, planning, developing, managing and implementing systemwide IT strategy, in consultation with the campuses. Implements alignment with the objectives and goals of the UA President and UA Board of Regents.

    Duties:
    As a member of the executive leadership team, participates and contributes to overall systemwide technology planning, bringing a current knowledge and future vision of technology and systems to business processes, products and services for a competitive advantage.
    Advise the president, other university officers, and the board in matters related to information technology systems and services; be responsible for the university core information systems and services infrastructure including the integrity of data and the security of systems and services. Facilitate and/or contribute to higher education governance practices and teams to receive input and communicate outcomes effectively. br>Be responsible for and coordinate the development and implementation of systemwide information technology standards subject to regents' policy and university regulation.
    Provides strategic direction for System Office policy matters and leveraged services, including enterprise infrastructure and architecture, applications development, re-engineering business processes in conjunction with the university IT leads, networks, out-sourcing, and computer and auxiliary operations and support.
    Stays current in new technologies and platforms; identifies emerging technologies to be integrated and introduced within the enterprise. Ensure IT capabilities respond to the needs of the enterprise's growth and objectives. Provides leadership, coaching and direction to the Office of Information Technology leadership team and staff. Develops strong, positive relationships with the university IT organizations and facilitates collaborative projects of and for the system.
    Oversees a shared services model with the system office and the University of Alaska Fairbanks for IT service capabilities including telecommunications, network and wireless services, remote and in-person user support services, videoconference and classroom technology services, university supported platforms, applications, and web services and information security monitoring and incident management. Oversees and develops plans in conjunction with UAF leadership to meet UAF employee, student and researcher needs.
    Coordinate with the universities for planning and adopting best practices in the management of information technologies and services. Needs to understand complex and possible future effects of changes. Also identifies and implements process improvement to optimize IT service delivery, improve customer satisfaction and the university system performance. Ensures and develops security policies for protection of user authentication, data and other confidential information.
    Plans and develops the annual expense and capital expenditure budget for Office of Information Technology or other major IT initiatives impacting the UA System. Manages the budget to ensure consistency with overall strategic objectives.
    Serves on enterprise planning and policy-making committees; drives the development of enterprise technology standards, governance processes and performance metrics to ensure IT delivers values to the enterprise.
    This position will require a strong collaborator with proven ability to reach consensus and/or decisions to best support one or more campus technology decisions, along with the ability to support a decentralized operating model.

    The Office of Information Technology (OIT) at the University of Alaska is a unique organization in that it provides services to students and employees system-wide. We provide services to the University of Alaska Fairbanks and system office employees.

    Our services are complemented by services at the University of Alaska Anchorage, the University of Alaska Southeast, and staff in departments and research institutes.

    Areas include, but are not limited to, voice and data communications; academic and research technology; administrative systems; financial technology; training; user support; IT security systems; data center facilities; and infrastructure.

    Required Experience:

    - 10 or more years in IT business/industry
    - 5 to 7 years of leadership responsibilities
    - 5-plus years in related industry managing multiple, large, cross-functional teams or projects; influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders
    - Organizational change leadership experience

    Typical Education and Training:
    Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration or related field; or equivalent work experience.
