Position Summary

The Skyhawk Advisor is responsible for creating a supportive environment for students, fostering retention and timely graduation. This position provides advising services to students to progress towards degree requirements, monitors and certifies academic progress, and establishes an academic plan for the student’s academic success.   

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree  
  • One or more years of work experience in secondary or post-secondary education  
  • Experience in admissions, academic advising, student success, or other relevant fields 
  • Exceptional customer service skills, both in-person, over the phone, and via email   
  • Demonstrated ability to take direction and work in a fast-paced office  
  • Excellent computer and technology skills, including the ability to prepare and analyze  spreadsheets, query databases, and learn new technologies quickly  
  • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills including attention to detail  
  • Strong oral and written communication skills  
  • Exhibited ability to collaborate and work in a team setting  
  • Demonstrated motivation, professionalism, and strong work ethic   
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Banner/WebOPUS student information system, and CRMs such as Slate 
  • Experience working with student success programs 
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office products, such as Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.   
  • Familiarity with Fort Lewis College curriculum, culture, and student services   
Major Responsibilities
  • Academic Advising: Provide student-centered academic counseling that ensures the student’s academic progress and success. Work closely with the Skyhawk Station and Academic Divisions to be trained in and share information that can impact a student’s academic options. Connect students to faculty and department to ensure that student is engaged in their selected major, minor, and/or program, takes advantage of academic offerings, understands curricular requirements, and implements graduation map 
  • Provide academic counseling sessions for case load of students, developing advising best practices for your Academic Division   
  • Serve as an academic counselor in Skyhawk Station, providing assistance with academic procedures relating to topics such as students’ course registration, change of major, transfer credits, waitlist process, academic standing, and course withdrawals   
  • Assist Skyhawk Station with implementing campaigns relating to students’ curricular, financial aid, and registrar concerns     
  • Enroll incoming first-year students in their first semester courses by analyzing the students’ preferences and interests while keeping degree requirements and progress toward graduation in mind 
  • Foster students’ academic excitement by understanding and conveying the unique attributes of your Academic Division’s curricular arc, experiential courses, senior seminar, undergraduate research opportunities, and special events   
  • Connect students to resources for career planning and graduate school planning, internship and community opportunities, and scholarships and fellowships    
  • Serve as front-line academic counselor who can refer students to support offices such as Tutoring, Counseling Center, Success Coaching, or Disability Services   
  • Collaborate with Academic Division to offer innovative academic support events, including academic exploration symposia, annual academic major fair, faculty advising events, workshops and presentations 
  • Work closely with the team of Skyhawk Advisors in other Divisions to support all students, regardless of major 
  • Work across many different technology platforms to assist students in their academic journey 
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities  
  • Maintain knowledge and awareness of digital accessibility including the American with Disabilities Act and Section 508 
  • Produce and remediate digitally accessible materials in accordance with FLC standards 
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Compensation

The salary for this position is 41,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package .
