Job Summary:
As part of the Science & Engineering Libraries (SEL) Desk Services Team, this position is based in the Geology Library and will take a lead role in managing the Geology Library desk services operations. This position will participate in a team approach to access services across all SEL locations and be expected to work in all SEL locations, including AMP, Geology and Steenbock. Provides front-line support to student employees and collaborates on student scheduling. Oversees circulation services support, student supervision, collection access, and daily stacks maintenance.

- 40% Provides complex support to the day-to-day operations of library services to provide guidance in the use of library information resources, operations, and policies; or to acquire, prepare, and preserve library information resources for use
- 5% May assist and educate both face-to-face and remote customers in the use of technologies and tools to create, seek, use, and manage information
- 10% Interprets policies and procedures to answer non-routine questions and resolve complex issues
- 5% Utilizes designated library systems, tools, standards, and practices to locate, retrieve, and organize; or describe, edit, preserve, and reformat a variety of library information resources
- 5% Conducts reference searches to locate relevant materials and answer questions as needed
- 5% Utilizes library software and systems to retrieve, enter, and report on data using a wide variety of applications
- 10% Provides complex library services support in absence of a supervisory authority. Acts as a resource to other library staff
- 10% Hires, trains, and guides student employees and monitors student workflows
- 5% Contributes to the development of policies and procedures
- 5% Participates in committee work within the library and the university
- Manages daily service desk and access service operations at the Geology Library, including reserves and document delivery. Assists at other SEL locations (AMP, Geology, Steenbock) as needed.
- Hires, schedules, assists, trains, and/or directs student assistants with the hiring team to work at all SEL locations.
- Develops and maintains shared documentation that supports SEL Desk Services, collaborating with others to update documentation. Contributes to developing and delivering new and refresher training for all desk services staff as needed.
- Processes student payroll, monitors student budget and student salaries.
- Contributes to the development and application of access services policies and procedures.
- Oversees collection & compilation of routine access services data and produces reports as needed.
- Supervises daily stacks maintenance operations. Participates in planning and supervision of stacks management projects with SEL collections management staff and in collaboration with the GLS storage and shelving team.
