Job Summary:

University Health Services (UHS) is looking for an experienced, passionate leader for violence prevention on the UW-Madison campus. UHS strives to promote, protect, and restore health and well-being. We are an integrated health care facility that fully integrates our prevention, medical, and mental health services. Within UHS, the Prevention and Campus Health Initiatives teams committed to creating a healthy and safe campus and community using public health tools of data, communications, capacity building and policy, systems and environmental change. This work is informed by our values of empowerment, authenticity, creativity, data-informed practice, and equity. This Assistant Director for Violence Prevention will be one of three Assistant Directors focusing on violence prevention, high risk drinking prevention and mental health promotion. While your work will focus on reducing relationship and sexual violence and misconduct on our campus and in our community, as a team, we are all working together to reduce the root causes of many of our campus' health concerns including power, privilege, racism, and discrimination. Your team members will work across all our issue areas in functional teams focusing on data, communications, coalition building, training and education, policy and health equity.

This position's primary responsibilities will include:

-Supervise a team focusing on capacity building, policy advocacy and development, data, and communications.
-Serve as campus leader for violence prevention through membership on campus committees and workgroups, available for consultation to campus and community partners, and representation at public events focused on violence prevention.
-Participate in the coordination of work ongoing at UHS related to survivor services and violence prevention, including medical and mental health services and advocacy.
-Provide leadership for the Prevention and Campus Health Initiative teams by developing and aligning with a strategic direction for our work, ensuring continuous quality improvement in our efforts, and aligning our work with our efforts towards health equity.

Responsibilities:

Improves well-being of the campus community by engaging with campus and community stakeholders and using population-level data to prioritize, design, implement, and evaluate strategies to achieve measurable health improvements by creating health-supporting systems, policies, and environments. Supports and directs the work of others.
  • 10% Assists in the development of unit focused strategic planning initiatives and objectives
  • 10% Assists in the development and implementation of operating policies and procedures to promote well-being of the campus community in alignment with the strategic plan
  • 10% Identifies, develops, and monitors staff performance and goals
  • 10% Gathers and evaluates population-level health data and engages with stakeholders to discern needs and interests and build capacity for population-level health improvement
  • 10% Applies evidence-based theories, frameworks, and assessments according to current health research and practice
  • 10% Develops, implements, organizes, and evaluates population-health initiatives based on sound data, theory, and evidence
  • 25% Provides consultation, training, and capacity-building resources for stakeholders to advance a health-promoting, setting with respect to policies, learning and working environments, physical spaces, services and support, student development, and/or opportunities for social connectedness
  • 15% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications:
-Professional experience working in public health, injury or violence prevention or survivor advocacy

Preferred qualifications:
-Experience working in a higher education or health care setting
-Experience working towards improving health and safety in a diverse population with healthy equity and social justice at the center
-1 or more years management or supervisory experience
-Experience or training in assessment, quality improvement or evaluation
-1 or more examples of project management tools or processes used
-Experience working with coalitions towards collective policy, systems, or environmental change.
-Experience working with survivors of sexual assault
-Experience designing, implementing and evaluating universal education trainings for large numbers of participants.
