ATHLETICS PUBLIC RELATIONS SPECIALIST, OUTREACH AND ENGAGEMENT

Salary:

Minimum $42,600 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications

Job Summary:

In this role the incumbent will focus on telling proactive positive stories around the outreach and engagement of Wisconsin Athletics as they align with our brand values.

They will work cross functionally with our community relations and brand communications teams to identify and execute strategies that promote and enhance the mission of Wisconsin Athletics, to elevate lives through engagement and outreach. They will lead proactive campaigns that support our brand values and directly story tell our outreach and engagement.

They will work with internal teams daily to build trust and provide insight but also build strong relations with members of the media and external influencers to tell new and interesting stories about our outreach and engagement. They will have experience in mining for stories, and crave autonomy and ownership.

The incumbent will also oversee our donation and gift-in-kind program.

This role will report to the Director of Community Relations and is based in Madison, WI.

Responsibilities include:
* Design and execute PR plans, projects, and initiatives around the outreach and engagement of Wisconsin Athletics.
* Develop, build, and maintain solid relationships with diverse media.
* Conceptualize, plan, design, and execute content surround outreach and engagement storytelling.
* Direct operational activities for multiple communication platforms and post content within UW Badgers that include website, social media, written/illustrative communication, and online tools.
* Identify and leverage data to support storytelling efforts
* Build trust and strong relations, internally and externally, to mine for good stories.
* Track media coverage for outreach and engagement.
* Manage donation request fulfillment- oversee and execute itemized donations and gift-in-kind program

Responsibilities:

Plans, prepares and disseminates institution-related publicity and good-will information to the public and other external entities in support of the institution's strategic communication goals.
  • 40% Develops and executes public relations plans, projects, and initiatives utilizing various communication mediums
  • 10% Participates in the development of the public relations strategy in collaboration with communications leadership
  • 25% Assists with pitching and placing content in accordance with established marketing objectives and responding to inquiries
  • 15% Initiates, writes, and edits press coverage ideas, briefing materials, and content independently for leadership
  • 10% Tracks media coverage of institution

Education:

Required
Bachelor's Degree

Qualifications:

* 3 or more years of PR and external relations experience preferred.
* Exceptional verbal and written communications skills.
* Acute attention to detail.
* A desire to work proactively with the media.
* A network of diverse media contacts.
* Professionalism in all interactions with media, fans, community, corporate partners, student-athletes, coaches, and athletic staff.
* High ownership and commitment to delivering results.
* An entrepreneurial spirit, including the ability to work independently and autonomously.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe creative suite.
* Knowledge of NCAA and Big Ten rules and regulations
* Ability to maintain confidentiality where necessary.

Conditions of Appointment: This is a 100% Academic Staff appointment. Salary will be assigned within the appropriate range, commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience.
