Under the direction of the Director of Student Activities and Inclusion, the Military Affiliated Student Outreach Coordinator is responsible for facilitation of co-curricular programs, multicultural competence, student veteran leadership opportunities, and an overall campus climate that fosters student development. The coordinator will be an ombudsperson in serving the specific needs of student veterans, military personnel, and their families. This position will serve as an advocate for the needs of student veterans and will provide leadership in creating and maintaining a centralized source for student veterans and military personnel in receiving all benefit programs and services for which they are eligible. Coordinates amongst college-wide departments to provide appropriate academic and social programs and services; implements a marketing, communication, and educational plan for faculty, staff, and students related to veteran needs.

Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree or higher.
2. Two plus years of military service.
3. Two plus years of experience with veterans services or other student support service in a postsecondary institution
4. Computer skills to include beginner/intermediate word processing and spreadsheet skills, proficiency using a report writing tool, and solid internet research skills.
5. Good customer service skills
6. Strong oral/written communication and interpersonal skills.
7. Solid organizational and planning skills.
8. Ability to assume responsibility, exercise judgment, and work independently.
9. Proven ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Summary of Essential Functions:
Programming and Student Support (50%)

· Coordinates with other departments to provide academic and social programs and services that will provide reasonable opportunities for academic performance and success.· Plans and coordinates special events for the veteran and military student population and community, including but not limited to Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day.· Serves as club advisor to the Student Veterans Club.· Creates and maintains a campus-wide initiative to educate staff and faculty about the unique needs of veteran and military students.· Support other Student Activities and Inclusion programs.· Serves as liaison with various agencies related to Veteran’s Affairs including coordinating on-site visits.· Attends seminars, conferences, and programs related to Veterans’ Affairs and Services and serves on committees relating to veteran’s issues.· Coordinate welcoming events/meet and greet sessions for new and continuing students

· Assist with coordination and implementation of DEIJ programs to encourage use of services

· Participate in campus diversity and heritage month planning committees.

· Assist in the implementation DEIJ workshops/training applicable to Student Activities and Inclusion, and related campus initiatives.
Recruitment & Retention (40%)

· With the aid of the Public Relations and Marketing Department, designs and develops a marketing plan for services including brochures, program information, and a web page for veterans.

· Creates and executes a continuous communication plan with veteran and military students to assure access and to respond to their needs and expectations.

· Provides leadership in continuous improvement initiatives related to recruitment, admission, and retention of veteran and military students.

· Identifies and implements ways to improve services to veteran and military students using technology; including but not limited to communications and more efficient processing of benefits/aid.

· Advises students on the satisfactory academic progress requirements for veterans educational benefits and financial aid programs. Directs students to appropriate advisors for advisement on the student’s educational plan.

· Manages Great Lakes Naval Base extension site, including but not limited to, coordinating schedule changes and serving as a liaison between main campus offices, Military Education Services Offices, and other colleges.

· Manages student educational agreement programs by providing assistance with the processing and evaluation of educational experiences and future educational plans of veteran/military students in conjunction with the Records and Advising offices.

· Develops, plans, publicizes, and coordinates courses and programs offered at the Great Lakes Naval Base site.

Assessment (10%)

· Assists in audits and program reviews, and provides requested data and reports for various agencies.

· Creates and maintains a centralized source for student veterans and military personnel to learn how to receive all benefit programs and services for which they are eligible.

· Collects, tracks, and reports data relative to the success of veteran and military students; including but not limited to annual fiscal impact reporting to the Board of Higher Education and the Military Friendly Survey.

· Develop assessment techniques to determine success of established programs. Track participants progress and analyze results to recommend program improvements.· Compiles and submits enrollment reports as required by the Navy.
