Summary:
The College of Lake County seeks applicants who possesses exceptional industry experience and skills in digital media for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in Graphic Design in the Digital Media and Design Department. Additional experience in motion graphics, A/V production, user interface design or social media is desirable. The candidate will teach graphic design and related courses in the department. The ideal candidate will be an experienced and dedicated educator who demonstrates motivation in student success through academic advisement, instruction, curriculum development, and promotion of programs and courses in the department. This position serves a diverse range of community college students including career program, transfer, returning and non-traditional populations.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Digital Media or related field.
  • Evidence of a professional graphic design, motion graphics and user interface design.
  • Experience working with Adobe Creative Cloud software, 2D & 3D modeling and animation software, and audio and video editing and production software.
  • Evidence of continued professional activity.
  • Demonstrated evidence of commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
    Competency in technologies commonly used in post-secondary instruction.





Desired Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Graphic Design, Digital Media, Motion Graphics, or related field.
  • Expertise working with Adobe Creative Cloud software including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Acrobat, After Effects, Premiere, etc.
  • Expertise working with printing production, printers, scanners.
  • Experience working with SLR cameras, audio and video recording equipment is desired.
  • 1-3 years of college teaching experience beyond graduate school teaching assistantships.
  • Community college teaching experience.
  • Ability to teach all levels of graphic design courses including creative design theory, visual storytelling, history of graphic design, typography, packaging design, printing, etc.
  • Teaching skills in graphic design, motion graphics, audio and video production, user interface design and social media is desirable.
  • Ability to teach students to apply design concepts, traditional and evolving trends, technological advancements in the ever-changing design industry.
  • Proven experience developing college-level digital media curriculum.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and teaching virtual, online or hybrid courses.
  • Established involvement with developing community and client-based partnerships.
  • Experience effectively communicating with an ethnically and culturally diverse student population.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.

Special Instructions Summary: For the design portfolio, please include approximately 15-20 examples of your work.Applicants selected for an interview will be required to submit a minimum of two (2) letters of recommendation.This is a full-time, tenure track faculty position. Salary placement is commensurate with education and experience. The minimum 2022-2023 academic year (Fall & Spring Semester) base salary range has not been determined. Optional contract for the summer session offers potential for significantly greater earnings.The minimum 2021 - 2022 academic year (Fall & Spring Semester) base salary range was $60,913 with a master’s degree to $77,349 with a doctorate in the subject field.Faculty may be assigned to any of the three CLC campuses; Grayslake, Lakeshore or Southlake. New faculty hires are required to attend orientation the week prior to the start date of August 15, 2022.Foreign Transcripts: Transcripts issued outside the United States require a course-by-course analysis with an equivalency statement from a certified transcript evaluation service verifying the degree equivalency to that of an accredited institution within the USA.

Work Schedule:
Varies according to course schedule. Ability to teach days, evening and weekends as determined by the needs of the program in any given semester. Ability to teach at all campus locations as needed (Grayslake, Lakeshore or Southlake).

Summary of Essential Functions:
Faculty members are expected to maintain current in compliance training including compliance under Title IX “Responsible Employee” and, if applicable, Clery Act Campus Security Authority.

Select, prepare and maintain current curriculum, course outlines and printed and non-printed instructional materials.

Teach courses as scheduled each academic semester.

Provide instructional support to the students by meeting with them outside of class if asked; refer students, when appropriate, to sources of specialized services within the College.

Provide students an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the college, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines and evaluation criteria.

Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions or examinations; provide feedback in a timely manner on student progress.

Deliver course content using a variety of teaching styles and provide interesting and engaging assignments that demonstrate the real-world applications of concepts covered.

Maintain office/discipline/grade/division records as required by the College.

Be available for student consultation through office hours or scheduled appointments or by phone or email.

Use the appropriate College policies and procedures to resolve and document student complaints, concerns and problems.

Ensure ADA compliance within classes assigned.

Assist in developing and administering discipline-appropriate measures of student academic achievement; use departmental testing instruments as provided. Administer other instruments designed to measure student learning outcomes as requested and required by the department. Provide all results as requested.

Conduct all classes in accordance with an established and current course syllabus and approved textbook (and/or related instructional material). Meet all classes for the scheduled time.

Submit all grades (mid/final) electronically prior to the required deadlines; provide the Registrar appropriate grade records.

Encourage students to submit course evaluations, review course evaluations when available and use feedback to improve course delivery.

Revise and update course content as needed.

Participate, when appropriate, in the formation and meetings of program advisory boards.

Maintain a high level of professional ethics.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean.
