Senior Community Relations & Special Events Associate



Summary

This is an exceptional opportunity for an individual with a passion or interest in genetics and community outreach to make a significant difference in promoting awareness of genetic conditions.

Community Relations Associate needed to work with the Co-Director of the Office of Community Outreach and Diversity . This position manages the Evenings with Genetics seminar series , oversees and manages an educational grant from the DSHS and serves as an active member of the Community Outreach and Diversity Committee in the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics. This position works to attract underrepresented students to careers in genetics and genomics and populations impacted by genetic conditions and diversity issues.

Job Duties
  • Develops and maintains working relationships with BCM departments and external agencies.
  • Identifies and implements best practices for activities related to community outreach and diversity.
  • Researches articles, data, contacts, etc., via the internet for projects related to community outreach and diversity.
  • Social Media/PR/Flyer/Posters - develops a social media presence, develops tracking strategies for outreach events, and develop program advertising to various stakeholders; writes social media posts for upcoming events using current social media strategies within BCM (Facebook, Twitter, etc.).
  • Develops surveys and performs online research on community outreach and diversity topics; organizes and analyzes results for reporting purposes.
  • Oversees and manages registrations, caterings, logistics, etc., for all projects, seminars, webinars, and workshops; both virtual (ZOOM, Skype, etc.) or on location.
  • Identifies funding opportunities and submits grant proposals.
  • Should have some working knowledge of post award management; manages all project funds, grants and contracts, including reporting requirements.
  • Travel will be required for events local, statewide, and possibly nationwide depending upon the program, etc.
  • Maintains listserve for monthly distribution of upcoming events, maintains database for seminar registrants, and archives all community outreach and diversity activities.
  • Represents the Department for the Director and Co-Director at events as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Four years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Experience with underserved communities
  • Grants knowledge
