We are seeking a Director of Financial Aid & Scholarships to work remotely or out of our headquarters in Santa Barbara on a full-time 37.5-hour per week basis. 

 

Summary

Fielding’s director of financial aid & scholarships leads a strong team of three financial aid staff in the compliant awarding of graduate-level federal student aid, private student loans, and the university scholarships and grants award programs. The director oversees hiring and ongoing staff training, advises and executes compliant implementation of financial aid for new programs, and manages the financial aid technologies. Under the direction of the Executive Director of Enrollment Services, the financial aid director helps to inform and is responsible for the implementation of the university strategic plan as it relates to the financial aid office, including communications planning, office operations, and cross-unit collaboration for the successful recruitment, retention, and graduation of students. A successful candidate for this position will enjoy being hands-on with the staff, processes, and technology systems, as well as have strong skills in collaboration with other unit leaders.

 

Detailed Description

•   Oversees the financial aid unit, providing leadership, strategic direction, and supervision for all activities related to financial aid.  

•   Provides direct supervision to the Assistant Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships, and provides indirect supervision to the Financial Aid Advisor and Financial Aid Assistant. 

Acts as the chief financial aid director for available student financial aid from federal, state, local, and private foundation sources, as well as providing leadership in the development and administration of university scholarship programs. 

•   Oversight of the communication plans, website, portal, and other messaging for financial aid. 

•   Directs financial aid in the development and maintenance of student-centered financial aid services, including accurate and efficient advisement, consumer information, financial literacy, and awarding of federal loans, private loans, and scholarships. 

•   Responsible for the development and implementation of financial aid policies and procedures in compliance with federal, state, and university regulations and policies, including procedural controls, records management, program reviews, reconciliation, and audits. 

•   Manages the financial aid technologies, including the financial aid modules in Colleague and WebAdvisor Self-Service, and any other financial aid software technologies.  

•   Provides advisement in university-wide compliance with federal and state regulations, including gainful employment, enrollment reporting, satisfactory academic progress, cash management, and new program additions. 

•   Reporting to the Executive Director for Enrollment Services, this position is integral in the development and responsible for the implementation of the financial aid and scholarship strategic planning initiatives stemming from the institutional strategic plan.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, communication, or other related field is required. Master's degree preferred. Minimum of five years of experience in student financial aid.   Experience with management or unit leadership is required.  Experience with federal student loan administration, scholarship administration, and borrower counseling is required. User experience with database annual setup and patch testing is required, and experience with the Ellucian Colleague database system and Informer reporting software is strongly preferred.
