Academic Support Specialist -Virtual Tutoring Enterprise Center (Part-time Remote)

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

Reporting to the Executive Director-Academic & Student Services, theAcademic Support Specialist-Virtual Tutoring Enterprise Center (PT)supports and coordinates efforts to provide virtual, on-line tutoring services to students across all campuses, ensuring equitable access to tutoring services in all areas of study (i.e. writing, math, science) via the Tutoring Enterprise Center.

TheAcademic Support Specialist-Virtual Tutoring Enterprise Center (PT)uses Navigate and CS9 systems to match students with available on-demand tutors and schedule tutoring sessions. In addition, positions will aid in supporting the overall creation and delivery of academic and social support resources. Performs related remote duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Schedules virtual tutoring appointments, utilizing Navigate and CS9 systems to interact with students accessing the enterprise tutor center to obtain tutoring services.
  • Reviews students’ need for tutoring requests in real time and confirms if tutor(s) is available to connect with students for online tutoring sessions.
  • Assists students in scheduling online tutoring appointment via Navigate, student success management system.
  • Maintains data on Center’s activities including tutors working at Center; maintains a database of available tutors and their subject matter expertise.
  • Creates multimodal study guides and review materials that will support students’ understanding and learning in courses.
  • Creates and uploads academic support training/professional development materials for faculty and staff in Brightspace
  • Works closely with department faculty, tutors, and college Academic Support Centers to develop learning strategies that will increase a student’s ability to retain and understand course objectives in each instructor’s course.
  • Provides advice and counseling to help students with their academic and career goals. Connects intensive coaching and mentoring opportunities to at-risk students.
  • Works with Developmental Education faculty liaisons to develop diverse resources for students’ learning.
  • Assesses students’ needs and concerns and identifies strengths and resources to resolve problems. Uses existing data from CCC systems, including CS9 and Navigate, and information from students
  • Creates weekly reports to identify possible trends within the enterprise tutoring environment and CCC student’s unique needs and aspirations
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports To: Executive Director- Academic & Student Services

Direct Supervision: None

QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Education or a discipline or field of study related to the needs of the Tutoring Center
  • Must be familiar with Navigate, CS9, SharePoint and Qualtrics
  • Employees working remote responsible for providing a stable internet environment with a connection speed of at least 300 megabytes per second (Mbps).
  • Prior experience as a tutor in a student success or tutoring center is highly desirable.
  • Work experience in teaching and/or tutoring, or in an academic support services role in a higher education environment desirable
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work with and relate to a culturally diverse student body and staff.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
