Job Description
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Serve as a core member of the Systems and Networking team with the mission to create resilient, robust and scalable systems and services for the College. Configure, manage, and troubleshoot mission-critical Windows servers. Manage systems and processes that handle account management for Campus services. Work closely with the Identity Service Team, a cross departmental team that manages people records, access controls and identity & account management. Participate in team management of the availability, stability, reliability and performance of the campus-wide server and network infrastructure. Coordinate with the Client Services team to help leverage tools in our environment to secure and support client systems. Communicate effectively with teammates, assist or step in for others when necessary, and be part of the off-hours on-call rotation. Participate in service teams, ITS planning, and other campus technology mechanisms as assigned.
Take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.
Essential Functions
Systems Administration:
- Manage and maintain all servers associated with the enterprise
Active Directory environment as well as other Windows Servers
within a virtual server environment.
- Assist the Systems team in managing a diverse array of Windows,
Linux and application servers in an on-premise virtual environment
and cloud environment.
- Assist in the management of applications as necessary to
support authentication and authorization.
- Assist in the management of Google Apps for Education
services.
- Manage the permissions and structure of our fileshare
solutions.
- Cross train with and assist other Systems Administrators as
necessary.
- Manage our AD and Azure AD environment including policies,
schema management, groups and permissions.
- Work closely with Coordinate within the Identity Service Team
to troubleshoot and improve the full life cycle of accounts access
and authorization.
- Security: Maintain a robust set of security practices across
all services and systems.
- Harden AD, monitor systems for risks or security breaches and
continuously improve on our security posture.
- Work closely with our Client Services team to improve our
client/server security posture.
- Coordinate with the Senior Director, IT Risk Management and
other colleagues who share responsibility for ITS security and risk
management practices.
- Participate in service teams and ITS planning as assigned, in
keeping with ITS service goals, practices and philosophy.
- Stay up to date with current best practices by reading relevant
literature and attending conferences/workshops.
- Perform other tasks as requested by the Senior Director of
Systems and Networking.
Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, education, experience, certifications, licenses)
A bachelor’s degree, preferably in an IT-related field, and at least 3 years experience in systems administration of Active Directory and Windows servers on a large network or an equivalent combination of education/experience.
Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Skills
- Programmatic, structure and process oriented mindset; “we can
solve that” attitude.
- Extensive experience with Active Directory (AD), in
heterogeneous environments preferred, including permissions, group
policies and LDAP schema as well as the ability to query and
manipulate LDAP data.
- Ability to manipulate data for analysis whether it is in a
database, LDAP tree or other format.
- Windows systems administration experience required and the
ability to manage AD servers.
- The ability to troubleshoot complex systems and processes as
well as strong documentation and communication skills.
- Powershell or other scripting experience preferred and a
willingness to learn required.
- GSuite and Google tools or the willingness to adopt them is a
requirement.
- Understanding of virtual and cloud environments is a
plus.
