Success Coordinator

About the Opportunity

Success Coordinators play a lead role in a bold and innovative new student support program at Northeastern University. The Student Support Initiative (SSI) is an effort driven by the Office of the Senior Vice Chancellor for Education Innovation to enhance the ability of incoming first-year students to access the continuous support and guidance they need to thrive from “Day One.”

This initiative pairs trained upperclassmen (called Student Success Guides) with incoming students through a tailored tech platform. Student Success Guides will serve as navigation support, directing incoming students quickly and efficiently to the experts and resources they need. Each Success Coordinator will organize, train, and supervise approximately 15 Student Success Guides and oversee their engagement with caseloads of approximately 30-70 students, respectively.

The Student Support Initiative launched in the Fall of 2021 and works to welcome first-year students to the Northeastern University community, connect them to Northeastern's many resources, and provide individualized support for institutional interactions. This effort aims to enhance the student experience, facilitate connections with student support staff, and further solidify Northeastern's position as a leader in education innovation.

Responsibilities:

Success Coordinators are responsible for the administration, leadership, and supervision of a cohort of approximately 15 Student Success Guides.

Success Coordinators will lead regular team meetings, individual coaching sessions, and trainings with the members of their Student Success Guide team. In addition to their primary role of leading a team of Student Success Guides, Success Coordinators will also be integral in the shaping, refining, and iterative design of the Student Support Initiative through analyzing engagement data, providing consistent feedback, and sharing their first-hand experience with the program. They will also be active participants on committees and other project work within the SSI and Educational Innovation Teams.

The successful candidate will join a team of approximately 25 Success Coordinators and will report into an Associate Director of SSI. Success Coordinators will also work with student support and advising staff across the university to explore ways in which Student Support Guides can help connect students with appropriate resources, identify opportunities for improvement, and solve for gaps.

The Success Coordinator will participate in and facilitate dialogue and engagement efforts related to the needs of a diverse student and staff population. Additionally, they will support and contribute to the University's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Office of Education Innovation seeks diverse and non-traditional applicants and is committed to mentoring and training successful applicants to develop and apply skills and competencies in the field of student support.

This position requires some non-traditional work hours including evenings and weekends to accommodate student schedules, including those engaged in co-op, athletics, and other aspects of student life.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Effective administrative, organization, written and oral communication skills
  • 1-3 years of experience working directly with and supporting/developing students in Residential Life, Student Life, or related capacity, e.g. as a student peer mentor, orientation leader, etc.
  • Experience working autonomously and ability to exercise excellent time management and decision-making skills in areas of responsibility
  • Experience with and a commitment to working in a diverse, multicultural environment
  • Experience with computer applications
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Previous experience in conflict resolution/mediation and crisis management a plus

The Success Coordinator is an exempt 12-month, full-time, professional staff member working as part of the Educational Innovation Team and regularly collaborating with campus partners throughout the University. The Success Coordinator will work at Northeastern University's Boston Campus.
