Job Description Summary:

To provide technical oversight and coordination for The Art Galleries (TAG) at Austin Community College (ACC) and Art program’s exhibitions and projects.

Job Description:

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Oversees construction and installation of exhibits and exhibit units including framing, pedestals, walls, and cases; coordinates with ACC construction staff as needed; designs signage and labels for artwork.
  • Coordinates Art Department exhibitions by managing, scheduling, implementing, and coordinating key components of exhibition planning, installation, and deinstall phases at multiple ACC gallery spaces.
  • Maintains, tracks, and stores ACC permanent art collection; catalogs and photographically documents the collection; oversees relocation, delivery, and installation of art at designated college locations.
  • Assumes responsibility for delivery, transportation, and relocation of art and installation equipment and materials.
  • Assists with department budget by determining costs for repair and purchase of all art materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Coordinates, instructs, and supervises gallery attendants for the Art Department Gallery; may design gallery tours for special exhibitions and events.
  • Supports Art Department and Gallery public and internal communication through press coverage, social media posts, ACC newsletters and other outlets.
  • Designs ephemera (poster, announcements, etc.) for Art Department exhibits and events.
  • Coordinates Gallery security and safety management.
  • Develops and maintains the Art Department’s website through managing digital image databases and other public online image platforms.
  • Supports Art Department events, including exhibition openings, artist talks, and fundraising events.
  • Supports Art Department Outreach and Education to local schools and community groups.
  • Supports Art Department efforts to create online content and modules related to Gallery programming.

Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

  • Commercial photography and asset management.
  • Techniques and processes for storing and maintaining art collections.
  • Social media platforms and communication software.

  • Designing, constructing, and coordinating art exhibitions.
  • Maintaining an established work schedule.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of work-related information and materials.
  • Effectively using interpersonal and communications skills, including tact and diplomacy; ability to work collaboratively.
  • Effectively using organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Maintaining, storing, transporting, and tracking permanent art collections.
  • Studio photography and digital design.
  • Make recommendations that impact the budget.
  • Verbal and written skills for effectively communicating with public and ACC audiences.
Technology Skills
  • Use a variety of spreadsheet, word processing, database, and presentation software. Adobe Creative Cloud suite including: Photoshop, InDesign, Lightroom, and Illustrator. Wordpress. Photoshelter. SketchUp. Procreate
Required Work Experience
  • Two years related work experience.
Required Education
  • Bachelor's degree. MA in art related field or MFA preferred.
An Associate degree and four years of related work experience may substitute for this education requirement. Applicants who substitute work experience to meet the education requirement must use additional related work experience to meet the years of "Required Work Experience" for this position. Please note that the college reserves the right to amend these terms of substitution at any time.

Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed in a standard office or similar environment.
  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Work safely and follow safety rules. Report unsafe working conditions and behavior. Take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.
Salary Range

$33,982 - $48,545

ACC Benefits Overview

Full-time faculty and staffing table employees who work in full-time and/or part-time positions at the college are eligible for ACC medical benefits effective the first of the month after their first 60 days of employment. Benefits include medical, dental, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, retirement plans and AD&D.

ACC does not participate in Social Security. ACC participates in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) and the Optional Retirement Program (ORP-Faculty and Administrators Only). Part-time and Hourly employees participate in the ACC Money Purchase Plan (ACCMPP) as a retirement program required by federal law.
