Job Description:

General position summary: The Director of Student-Athlete Success’ primary responsibility is to help provide academic resources to student-athletes and provide guidance as needed related to academic issues, counseling resources, and overall student-athlete well-being.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the academic progress for over 500 student-athletes from matriculation to graduation
  • Report weekly on academic issues (early alerts, mid-term estimates) that may arise along with proactively creating action plans to ensure success in the classroom and maintain NCAA eligibility
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and records to verify compliance with all NCAA, Conference, and College policies, rules, and regulations
  • Prepare academic reports and trends on a monthly and yearly basis and assist with NCAA Reporting as needed
  • Responsible for oversight of the book scholarship program, manage and communicate missed class time and monitor study hall sessions
  • Develop and manage programming focused on creating a holistic student-athlete development model to ensure student-athletes are Built for Life upon graduation
  • Provide guidance in connecting student-athletes with various on-campus resources such as Academic Support and Retention, Tutoring Services, Counseling Center
  • Primary liaison with the Office of the Provost, the Registrar, the Faculty Athletics Representative, the Dean’s Office and the Counseling Center
  • Oversee the student-athlete speaker series and in-house tutoring operations
  • Manage the creation, content, and distribution of student-athlete evaluations of coaches
  • Provide education as needed related to academic progress, registration requirements, dates
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s degree in counselling, higher education, sport administration or related field preferred. Strong interpersonal skills with ability to develop and maintain collegial relationships. Must be flexible, collaborative and have a positive attitude excellent organizational and verbal/written communication skills. Impeccable discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to synthesize complex or diverse information. Ability to work independently, set priorities to achieve objectives and handle diverse assignments/projects with minimal supervision. Ability to foster and manager change within complex organizations. Ability to think and plan strategically for short and long-term programmatic needs. Proficiency in basic data management systems and basic computer software (e.g., Microsoft Word and Excel, Power Point, Google docs, email and calendaring.) Willingness and ability to learn additional software as needed.
