Job Summary:

The Townsend Lab in the Department of Forest & Wildlife Ecology uses airborne and satellite imagery to understand patterns of vegetation processes, including both natural and agricultural systems. Our funding comes primarily from NASA and the National Science Foundation, and we are the UW-Madison lead for a NSF-funded Biology Integration Institute. The Research Coordinator will provide administrative support to the research group including postdocs, graduate students, research staff and undergraduates. This will include managing lab purchases and purchasing card reconciliation, coordinating travel and fleet, maintaining a calendar of deadlines for the group, collating information for various reports to grant agencies and UW/CALS, as well as being a liaison to undergraduate hourly workers. The coordinator may do some light data entry and will assist the lab data manager with data uploads and organization.

Responsibilities:

Supports the development, design, and implementation of research projects according to plans, under the general direction of faculty and/or senior research personnel, following established protocols and guidelines to support and advance research in a given field under general supervision.
  • 10% Assists with conducting experiments or interviews, collecting and analyzing data, and documenting results according to established protocols
  • 20% Assists in composing and organizing research reports and manuscripts to provide updates on unit objectives
  • 30% Schedules logistics and secures resources for research supplies, equipment, and facilities
  • 20% Tracks supply and equipment inventory levels and places replenishment orders
  • 20% Maintains organization of research records according to established policies and procedures

Education:

Qualifications:

- Ability to work independently and set own priorities, as well as work collaboratively within a team environment required
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail required
- Experience with (or ability to learn) University policies and procedures required
- Experience with (or ability to learn) UW-Madison administrative, financial and payroll systems required
- Proficiency with (or ability to learn) Microsoft Office, Google Suite and Adobe software required
- Experience working in, or familiarity with activities of, a science/research laboratory preferred

Work Schedule:

Hours will be between 10-20 per week. Schedule is flexible and will be determined with supervisor at time of hire.

Work Type:

Part Time: 25% - 75%

This position requires some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location. Exact schedule will be coordinated with supervisor at the time of hire.

Appointment Type, Duration:

Terminal, 12 month appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding
