Job Summary:

The Graduate Program Manager positions for the UW-Madison English Department, manage and/or coordinate the recruitment and admissions processes, policies, and procedures from admission to graduation for students in MA, MFA and PhD studies in English Literature, Composition and Rhetoric, Creative Writing, English Language & Linguistics and, Interdisciplinary Theatre Studies. The positions supports the mission and efforts towards diversity and inclusivity.

The positions maintains internal graduate policies; make recommendations for policy and procedures development and revision; monitors student progress according to Graduate School policy and procedures; request warrants; track annual progress reports; schedules and monitors preliminary exams; develops, modifies, organizes and maintains current and past student files and databases for reporting; and program records; coordinates University fellowships; teams with others in administrating internal scholarships and fellowships. All work related to the graduate program, comply with graduate polices and university requirements and technology systems related to admissions, assessment, academic degree progress/requirements. The positions work with the Director of Graduate Studies, the Department Manager and the Department Chair.

Responsibilities:

Manages the administrative activities of graduate degree program(s) and/or certificate(s). Performs activities which may include: recruitment, admissions, new student orientation, academic advising, monitoring of progress towards the degree, course and/or enrollment management, diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, funding, course and/or program assessment, and academic program review. May oversee staff and/or graduate program functions.
  • 25% Serves as the expert resource for applicants, current students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders of an academic program
  • 25% Manages the response, support, and advocacy for graduate students while continuously improving the student experience and overall graduate program
  • 10% Oversees programming, services, and events to promote professional development and academic success
  • 15% Provides comprehensive advising services promoting graduate student success, retention, and degree completion. Advises on programs, graduate education, and university policies, processes, and procedures. Monitors degree progress and assists students in navigating resources and systems throughout the student lifecycle from matriculation to degree completion
  • 5% Manages graduate student funding including, but not limited to, fellowships, scholarships, training grants, or assistantships from department, university, and/or outside sponsors. May prepare and/or submit funding proposals
  • 10% Maintains compliance with graduate program(s), school/college, and university requirements and technology systems related to admissions, assessment, academic degree progress/requirements, and program review. Makes policy and procedure recommendations and/or changes
  • 10% Oversees staff and/or graduate program functions

Education:

Qualifications:

At least two years of experience in educational administration with some work in graduate programs areas; excellent organization, communication skills; ability to work with graduate students, faculty and staff to provide a cohesive graduate program for the Department and Programs.
