Job Description:

The Graphic Design Instructor position is a 9-month, tenure-track faculty position with an anticipated start date of August 2022. The successful candidate must demonstrate thorough knowledge in graphic design pedagogy, digital foundations, contemporary professional practices, branding, design theory and process, digital and print-based work in both production and theory, and student mentorship. The successful candidate will teach a wide array of design courses, including Computer Graphics I and II, Graphic Design I and II, Typography, Creative Web Design, Motion Graphics, and Electronic Prepress as assigned. This position requires the effective teaching and advising of diverse students, excellent oral and written communication skills, and a commitment to the comprehensive state college mission. The Instructor will prepare course plans and materials, effectively deliver subject matter content, monitor student attendance and progress, participate on departmental and College committees, participate in curriculum development, support activities that foster retention, participate in the selection of textbooks, assess student learning outcomes, and take part in other service and professional development activities. Day, evening, and distance learning teaching assignments are possible. This position reports to the Department Head, Visual Arts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must hold a Master in Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design, Digital and New Media, or Visual Communications from a regionally accredited institution or a master’s degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution and 18 graduate semester credit hours in discipline. Successful results of a background check are required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Prefer post-secondary graphic design teaching experience and the following industry-recognized credentials: Adobe Certified Professional (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and After Effects). Demonstrated competency in each area may substitute for the earned credential.

Pursuant to College policy, it is an employment eligibility requirement for an applicant to meet the requirements of § 435.04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations. Any person failing to meet the requirements of the statute will be deemed not qualified to hold employment in this position. A Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) approved background check will be conducted on every successful candidate as a condition of employment, and any person who fails to disclose any adverse information contained in the background investigation at the time of submitting the employment application will be disqualified from employment.

SALARY RANGE:

$37,750 - $43,750 for a 9-month contract with a master’s degree

$42,500 - $48,500 for a 9-month contract with a doctoral degree.

Pay Details:

Faculty members hired with less than three years of related experience shall be placed on the salary schedule as follows:

164 Day Base (2022 - 2023)
  • Bachelor's or Less - $35,000
  • Master's - $37,750
  • Master's Plus - $39,500
  • Doctorate - $42,500
All degree classification levels add the appropriate dollars (up to $6,000) for years of credited experience to the annual salary figures above to determine entry salary.
