Description

The Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin is seeking an exceptional leader to serve as the Associate Chair of Education in the Department of Psychiatry. The Associate Chair will lead the Department's undergraduate and graduate medical education missions, training the next generation of physician leaders to revolutionize the way people get and stay healthy. The Associate Chair of Education will play an integral role in helping the Department build a nationally-recognized training model for innovative, valued-based mental health care delivery and illness prevention with an emphasis on vulnerable persons and those suffering health disparities. This leadership position is not itself full-time, so the successful applicant will also bring unique, strong clinical or research skills to the department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Overseeing the Department's initiatives in undergraduate, graduate, faculty development and continuing medical education
  • Advising the Chair on issues related to education and training in the Department, and serving on the department's Executive Committee
  • Designing and regularly reporting metrics related to the performance of educational training programs for the purposes of ongoing tracking and performance improvement
  • Developing metrics and performance evaluation processes for faculty members' educational contribution, including affiliate faculty members from the community
  • Designing and implementing programs for faculty and resident development of educational skills, including visiting professorships and invited speakers related to education
  • Working closely with the Dell Medical School Executive Vice Dean for Academics, the Undergraduate and Graduate Medical Education offices, and Associate Chairs of Education in other Dell Medical School departments on cross-cutting initiatives
  • Representing the Department in key education-related decision-making bodies within the Dell Medical School, University of Texas, and with care partners
  • Managing and mentoring the Directors of departmental Residency and Fellowship programs.
  • Manage and advise clerkship and elective directors
  • Developing original programming for Dell Medical School faculty and community physicians to address broad educational gaps
  • Ensuring all CME programming adheres to ACCME standards and criteria

Qualifications

Required qualifications:
  • Medical degree from an accredited medical school with board certification in Psychiatry.
  • Substantial record of leadership and achievement in academic medicine
  • Significant experience with educational and training programs in Psychiatry
  • Eligible for appointment as Associate or Full Professor.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience with value-based care delivery and integrated practice models
  • Knowledge of educational psychology and application of adult learning theory in the development of curricula and instructional design
  • Research or clinical skills that complement existing departmental strengths and strategic goals.
