Lecturer Position - School of Mechanical Engineering, Purdue University
The School of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN, invites applications for a fulltime, 12-month, non-tenure track position of Lecturer, effective Fall 2022. The initial appointment will be for one year, and based on performance and availability of funds, the position is expected to be continued.
Job Duties
The position of full-time Lecturer includes the following duties:
· For each semester, teach two or three undergraduate/graduate lectures and/or undergraduate laboratory courses primarily in the academic areas of either the Heat & Mass Transfer and Fluid Mechanics areas (specifically ME 20000 Thermodynamics I, ME 30800 Fluid Mechanics, ME 30801 Fluid Mechanics Lab, and ME 31500 Heat Transfer among others) or the Design and Solid Mechanics areas (specifically ME 27000 Statics, ME 27400 Dynamics, ME 32300 Mechanics of Materials, ME 33201 Mechanics of Materials Laboratory and ME 35400 Machine Design among others) as well as other areas as needed.
· Successful candidates must exhibit a passion for teaching undergraduates and are expected to be highly motivated instructors.
· Successful candidates will also be expected to contribute to ongoing curriculum development.
· Assist in services to the School of Mechanical Engineering as needed.
Education
The candidate must have at the minimum an M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering with comparable professional or teaching experiences in colleges. Preference is for candidates to have a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
Qualification
Preferred: Demonstrated successful college-level teaching backgrounds, as well as experience mentoring young engineers; and demonstrated experience in student-centric interactive teaching styles (e.g., cooperative learning methods, flipped classrooms, etc.) as well as effective use of technology in the classroom.
