Department Summary
The Division of Student Life supports the University's academic mission through comprehensive programs and services that promote and advance student learning and success, while fostering an inclusive and vibrant campus community. Student Life includes four departments, the University Career Center, Office of the Dean of Students, Erb Memorial Union, and Physical Education & Recreation, and a number of key programs, including the Holden Center for Leadership and Community Engagement, Parent and Family Programs, Major Student Events (Commencement, Homecoming, University Day), Student Engagement & Success (Student Government), Student Conduct and Community Standards, and Support for Students in Crisis and Students of Concern.

The Office of Parent and Family Programs strives to build a foundation of parent education and engagement through communications, events, building community, and one-on-one support. The University of Oregon understands that students are more successful when their parents or family members are appropriately informed and involved. Parent and Family Programs supports our Parent and Family Association (PFA), and the PFA leadership team.

The office is comprised of this position and several student employees. Key partnerships for Parent and Family Programs includes the Division of Student Life, Office of Admissions, Student Orientation Programs, the University of Oregon Alumni Association, the Division of Student Life Office of Major Student Events, Student Services and Enrollment Management Strategic Communications and Marketing.

This position will require the ability to travel.
Position Summary
The Director of Parent and Family Programs serves as a critical connecting point for the families of undergraduate students and plays a key role in the support services that enrich our vibrant campus community. From admission to graduation, the Director is responsible for establishing and managing successful relationships that result in increased student success and family affinity for the student experience at the UO. Through extensive knowledge in student development and programming/event management, the Director applies creative and strategic thinking to planning processes to increase parent/family involvement. This position reports to the Associate Vice President.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 3 years of professional experience in higher education with experience in or collaboration with Student Affairs or student services functions.
  • Supervisory experience.

  • Demonstrated experience with and/or commitment to working effectively with students, parents, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds, in support of an inclusive and welcoming environment.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Experience in special events management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully build strategic and sustainable cross-organizational partnerships, including collaboration skills to work with multiple stakeholders.
    Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Student Affairs Administration, Higher Education Administration, or related field.
  • Work experience with an emphasis on parent/family programming.
  • Experience working in a large, complex organization.
  • Experience supervising student staff.
  • Experience in event planning.
  • Experience creating and implementing a strategic plan.
  • Experience with volunteer management.
  • Experience assessing program success.
  • Experience in public speaking.
