Position Summary
The Warehouse Worker works in the Central Warehouse areas and makes deliveries between the residence halls that house 4,000+ students. While providing this support, the position will interact with faculty, management staff, classified staff and resident student customers in a helpful and courteous manner. This position adheres to the Service Standards set by Housing Food Services and sets the example for other positions by exhibiting professional behavior, creating a respectful and inclusive work environment.

On a daily basis, the Warehouse Worker drives a delivery truck, forklift, and operates a hand truck. This person interacts with a variety of people throughout the day and will provide exceptional customer service. They will perform expected duties and use equipment and supplies in a safe manner. They will follow instructions and training from the supervisor, directions provided on equipment and labels, and use accepted practices.

This position leads the work of student staff and reports to the Assistant Director of Dining - Culinary Operations.

Special Requirements:
  • It is a requirement of this position to qualify for and maintain a UO driver's certification, which includes maintaining a valid driver's license throughout employment in this position.
  • Have, or ability to obtain a Lane County Food Handler's Card within 2 weeks of employment.
  • Slip resistant work boots with either steel or composite protective toe are required to be worn during working hours.
  • Long pants are required to be worn during working hours (no shorts).

    This is a full-time, 12-month position and shifts may include AM/PM, weekends and holidays. The work schedule may vary.

    Work conditions and physical demands are typical of those found in the food service industry. These conditions may include slippery floors, extreme temperatures, heavy lifting and standing for long periods. Standing and walking on hard surfaces for long periods is common for this position.

    Essential Personnel:
    This position requires the employee to make every reasonable effort to arrive at campus at their regularly scheduled times during inclement weather and/or university closures unless otherwise notified by their supervisor or manager. This includes times when the university may be closed. Essential personnel must provide reliable and current contact information at all times.
    Minimum Requirements
  • Two years' experience in shipping, receiving, and/or warehouse operations.
  • Experience with use of common warehouse equipment (e.g. pallet jack, hand truck, cargo van with lift gate, and miscellaneous power tools).
    Professional Competencies
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and maintain that customer service during rush periods.
  • Ability to prioritize duties.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Ability to maintain a safety-conscious workplace.
    Preferred Qualifications
  • Warehouse experience in a large, complex organization.
  • Loading dock experience serving tractor/trailer trucks.
  • Possess basic computer skills and familiarity with related computer software (email, shipping applications, etc.).
