Position Summary:
The Career Advisor, Deloitte Pathways Program is a key member of the Career Development team working collaboratively and independently to launch career and professional programming for underrepresented students at Willamette University. These initiatives and activities include: providing culturally informed one-on-one career advising, creating workshops and professional programs for historically underrepresented students, supporting students in their internship search, graduate school mentorship, and building and maintaining a professional network.
In addition to the typical duties of a career advisor, the Career Advisor, Renjen/Deloitte Pathways Program must be knowledgeable and passionate about serving underrepresented students, skilled at forming relationships with faculty and staff in other EDI-focused areas (such as the Office of Multicultural Affairs), interested in being a point of contact for diversity-focused student organizations and groups, and interested in working with campus partners in developing programs to better respond to the unique needs of underrepresented students.

JOB DUTIES
- Career Advising: Provides one-on-one career counseling, skill
development, and support to undergraduate student at Willamette
University.
- Design and deliver workshops and programs in collaboration with
the professional schools aimed at increasing the career exploration
and readiness of historically underrepresented students.
- Organize, recruit for, and attend events including alumni
speaker series, workshops, and site visits to employers.
- Partner with the Oregon Students of Color Conference to create
career-related events and programming for the annual
conference.
- Build relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni,
employers, parents, and donors in order to support students in
their career discovery.
- Develop innovative career programming in collaboration with the
Career Development team and other key stakeholders to benefit
students at Willamette University with a specific focus on engaging
underrepresented students.
- Assess, track, and monitor program participation and
effectiveness and make adjustments as needed.
- Develop a network of underrepresented alumni career mentors in
partnership with the Advancement team.
- Assisting with programming coordinated by others in Career
Development, Career Management, and PNCA.
- Supporting events hosted by the Student Center for Equity &
Empowerment, the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA), the Office
of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), the Gender Resource and
Advocacy Center (GRAC)/The Loft, and the Students Organizing for
Access to Resources (SOAR) Center, and the Office of International
Education (OIE).
- Other responsibilities and projects as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of career development theories, cultural identity
models and theories, career decision making, learning styles, and
job search strategies
- Demonstrated commitment to equity with experience in providing
support and advocacy for diverse communities (includes but not
limited to: race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability,
socioeconomic status, immigration status, and first-generation
college student status) in addition to awareness of one's own
racial, ethnic, gender, sexual, or cultural identity
- Social perceptiveness to be aware of others' reactions and
understanding why they react as they do; ability to teach a diverse
staff and identify training initiatives
- Ability in problem identification, reasoning, ability to
develop original ideas to solve problems, persuasion,
leadership
- Proven ability to work with people from diverse cultures and
backgrounds
- Displays the ability to facilitate group discussions,
workshops, activities, presentations, and reflections
- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent
experience/training
- Ability to reside in Oregon by the first day of employment or
otherwise perform work primarily in Oregon
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in related area and/or equivalent
experience/training highly preferred
- Previous experience working with underrepresented
groups
Typical Work Schedule
8am - 5pm Monday - Friday
Psychical Demands & Working Conditions
Typical work is performed indoors in a normal office environment.
Salary: $46,676
