Position Information

Position Title Assistant Director of Undergraduate Advising, Student Services, & DEI Overview
Serve as an academic advisor for 250-300 first-year and second-year business majors, by serving on and representing the PCSB on campus-wide academic advising committees, and providing related student services. Essential Duties:
1. Serve as an academic advisor for 250-300 first- and second-year business majors. Participate in all new student orientations (first-year and transfer), meeting with each individual student in preparation for registration, and providing holistic advising (e.g., career coaching, advising students on majors, minors, tracks, pathways, the Friar Leadership & Immersion Program ( FLIP ), and experiential learning opportunities). Review midterm and end-of-term grades, monitor academic progress, probation meetings, advising on campus policies, and advising for study abroad, etc. (40%)
2. Plan and execute the PCSB’s student-focused diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in collaboration with the Office of Institutional Diversity, the PCSB Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, and the PCSB Dean’s Diversity Council. Manage the Berkeley Business Excellence ( BBE ) and Berkeley Scholars (BS) programs. Work with the PCSB Dean’s Office and the Office of Institutional Advancement on corporate engagement support for these events. Collaborate with the PCSB Dean’s Office and appropriate assistant directors to lead and facilitate the PCSB first-year DEI workshops, and other DEI programming for FLIP, and plan and execute K-12 initiatives serving underrepresented students, and specific admissions events targeted at underrepresented students (e.g., bridge programs, high school programs, etc.). (35%)
3. Plan, facilitate, and coordinate as needed with other PCSB staff on the delivery of the Introduction to Business/First-Year Advising Workshops ( FYAW ) curriculum (weekly content) for new advisees, including planning speakers, skills workshops, and supporting FLIP requirements, etc. (15%)
4. Serve as the administrative advisor for recognized PCSB clubs: NABA and ALPFA . Meet regularly with club leadership, and support the planning for, and in some cases, attend their events. Support and lead DEI workshops for all PCSB students. (5%)
5. Serve on PCSB committees, attend meetings, support commencement and graduation, and assist in PCSB signature events. Marginal Duties:
Perform all other duties as may be required. Education and Experience Required
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited institution required. Higher education, business, or counseling preferred
  • One to two years’ experience within a university setting with student services experience (e.g., admission, academic advising, career counseling experience), or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Substantial working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Experience using SIS, ideally Banner
  • Strong interpersonal abilities and strong team orientation
  • Ability to work with various constituencies, including corporate partners, vendors, prospective students, parents/guardians, current students, alumni, faculty, and staff
  • Ability to think strategically in the delivery of programs and services
  • Must possess strong organizational skills
  • Some evenings and weekends required
