Position Information

Position Title Study Abroad & International Student Advisor Overview
Provide advising and support services to both student abroad and international students, parents, and actively conduct programming to recruit study abroad students and engage international students. Essential Duties:
1. Conduct both individual and group advising to review program options, eligibility, study abroad policies, course selection/course articulation process, etc. Respond to student/parent inquiries in a timely manner. Manage and review applications for assigned programs and assist deans with approval decisions and communication to approved students. Facilitate communication between students and their respective study abroad program staff/advisors. Support the Deans with pre-departure and re-entry programming. (35%)
2. Maintain students’ SEVIS records and files and issue new/updated I-20s/DS-2019s as needed. Coordinate advising/services/support for international students with other stakeholders on campus. Coordinate event planning for international students with the Assistant Dean, Administrative Coordinator, and student staff. (25%)
3. Conduct study abroad student information sessions for the College’s various study abroad programs, especially flagship programs (PC in Rome, CIV in London), and faculty-led programs. Coordinate study abroad outreach with other campus stakeholders – Admissions, academic departments, student organizations, etc., and represents CGE at such events. Promote events/outreach through Morning Mail announcements and social media in conjunction with the student staff. Liaise with and coordinate campus visits/outreach by third-party program representatives. (20%)
4. Liaise with the Associate Director for CEL /Director of National & International Fellowships, financial aid, and other stakeholders to identify candidates for national-level scholarships. Develop promotional resources/materials for scholarship/funding opportunities, both print, and web-based. Conduct info sessions on scholarships and funding opportunities for study abroad. Assist students with applications, coordinate study abroad program provider affiliate grants and scholarships, support the Assistant Dean with the administration of Santander grant, and coordinate reception each semester for scholarship recipients. (10%)
5. Assist with review and provide input for the College’s study abroad program portfolio in terms of academic quality, student support/pastoral care, and suitability for students. Maintain an accurate/up-to-date list of approved programs and study abroad program provider contact details. Assist with the preparation of CGE reports, print materials, and newsletters for students, parents, and campus/external stakeholders. Support the Assistant Dean with CGE website edits and updates to the application process in Horizons. Coordinate student enrollments, program details/logistics, and payment/insurance tracking for faculty-led programs. Prepare/distribute minutes for International Programs Advisory Committee ( IPAC ) meetings. (10%) Marginal Duties:
Perform all other duties as may be required. Education and Experience Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution required. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Three to five years’ experience working with college students or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong technology skills (MS Office, web editing, social media)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective time management and the ability to meet competing deadlines in a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively and collegially with various stakeholders in a higher education setting
  • Good judgment and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work evenings/weekends and travel both domestically and internationally
  • Prior experience working with college students, preferably study abroad and/or international students
