Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Assistant Director of Counseling aids in the day to day management of the Counseling Center and takes lead when the Director of Counseling and Health Services is unavailable. The Assistant Director will support the Director in the creation and implementation of policies and procedures as well as oversight of all aspects of clinical, training and outreach functions of the center, focusing on complying with licensing, legal, and ethical standards of practice. The Assistant Director will maintain a clinical caseload providing a range of services including but not limited to short term solution focused therapy, emergency assessments and case management, focusing on appropriate, individualized treatment from a social justice framework. The Assistant Director will take primary management over the clinical trainee program that supports the development of Masters and PhD level Social Workers, Psychologists and Mental Health Counselors.
  • Clinical Responsibilities: Provide triage and brief screening assessments, intake assessments, short-term solution-focused individual counseling, group counseling, treatment planning, crisis intervention and emergency mental health evaluations, case management and referral assistance for clients on clinician’s caseload. Collaboration with concurrent or recent treatment providers, consultation with students, faculty, staff, and parents, and rotate as Clinician on Duty in the Counseling Center throughout the week. Plan and participate in outreach and education for campus community.
  • Administrative Responsibilities: Support the Director of Counseling & Health Services in overall administrative and staffing oversight with respect to Counseling Center daily functioning, policies, and procedures. In the absence of Director of Counseling and Health Services, the Assistant Director of Counseling will provide Counseling Center clinical and administrative coverage and oversight during the Counseling Center’s hours of normal operation.
  • Training/Supervisory Responsibilities: Provides oversight and management of a comprehensive, multi disciplinary training program in college mental health and will train and supervise psychology, counseling and/or social-work practicum/intern students, complying with state and professional regulations and guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Independent Licensure for a minimum of five years in Social Work, Psychology or Mental Health Counseling.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Administrative/leadership experience strongly preferred
  • Experience managing a clinical training program preferred.
  • Fluent in languages other than English
