Position Purpose
In support of Dartmouth’s Alumni Relations mission, the Director of Alumni Engagement provides program leadership to engage volunteers and build connection between alumni and Dartmouth. Provides strategic oversight, vision, and leadership for alumni through volunteer engagement and in partnership with more than 200 recognized and active alumni organizations (including classes, clubs, and groups). Works with volunteer leadership boards, ad hoc committees, and taskforces. Manages a team focused on alumni organizations, operations, and support that includes regional engagement and engagement of key audiences, including alumnae, BIPOC alumni, international alumni, and young alumni. Partners strategically with colleagues across Advancement and Dartmouth to support the multifaceted goals of alumni engagement.

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
* 7+ years of advancement experience in a complex college or university development operation or the equivalent
* Staff and volunteer management experience, ability to lead through change, motivate and inspire staff and volunteers
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated ability to influence diverse constituencies
* Demonstrated initiative, creative energy, and ability to manage complex projects or events
* Analytical and strategic thinking capabilities with strong planning and organizational skills.
* Ability to articulate the purposes and programs of Dartmouth to individuals and groups.
* Maturity, intelligence, and professionalism that earn the respect of colleagues
* Collaborator who works well as part of a team
* Experience employing technology and data analytics to optimize volunteer engagement
* Flexible, adaptable, and comfortable working in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment
* Willingness to travel, work nights and weekends

Works to set Alumni Council strategy and liaises with ad hoc committees as needed. Works in various aspects of alumni relations developing relationships that affect the perception of Dartmouth held by alumni. Communicates with alumni, volunteers, senior administration, faculty, and trustees to execute engagement strategies. Manages associated budgets and resources

Working closely with the Senior Director, develops new engagement opportunities and organizations to meet the changing needs and expectations of alumni. Serves as a strategic lead on focused projects including creating new initiatives or improving existing ones that, through broad outreach and selective targeting, offer alumni access to a wide range of resources at Dartmouth in ways that enrich their intellectual, professional, and personal lives. Introduces creative, strategic, and tactical thinking to strategic outreach planning efforts to enhance Dartmouth’s reputation and showcase the intellectual strengths of the College and help to advance its reputation and prestige in the marketplace.
