INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT SPECIALIST

Full Time Non-Exempt

Remote Position

The Online Learning Consortium (OLC) has over twenty years of experience in providing organizations with online learning support, experience, and knowledge-leadership to meet institution learning and development needs.

The Online Learning Consortium (OLC) Institute for Professional Development is seeking an Instructional Support Specialist to join our talented team of superstar instructional designers. The person in this position would collaborate with the Institute’s instructional designers in the coordination of existing workshops and programs and in the development of new professional development offerings. Furthermore, the Instructional Support Specialist would identify and evaluate emerging learning technologies and review Institute offerings to further OLC’s mission of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion and to improve the overall quality of the learning experience for participants.

The OLC Institute for Professional Development offers asynchronous, synchronous, and self-paced learning opportunities that focus on creating quality digital, blended, and online learning experiences for professionals at any stage in their careers. This position would work closely with Institute staff to support the Institute’s goal to provide engaging, high-quality professional development to our international community of educators. This is a remote position.

The ideal candidate will have a background in instructional design, experience collaborating with a diverse set of stakeholders within and outside of an organization, familiarity with educational technologies, and outstanding project management skills. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of offerings by Institute faculty and mentors in OLC’s learning management system in Canvas
  • Collaborate with Institute instructional designers with new workshop development and refreshes, which includes working with subject matter experts and Institute faculty and mentors
  • Collaborate with Institute instructional designers to incorporate into offerings effective Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) practices that align with OLC’s values and mission
  • Identify, explore, implement, and evaluate innovative instructional technologies to enhance Institute offerings
  • Review regular, evaluative feedback from workshop participants to inform revisions to Institute offerings
  • Review existing Institute offerings as part of a cycle of continuous improvement
  • Serve as a collegial and collaborative member of the team, always participating in respectful and generative critique for the betterment of the organization
  • Provide support to the organization with other core duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience using Learning Management Systems (i.e. Canvas, Moodle, D2L) in course design
  • Experience using software and tools to support the development and delivery of multimedia learning objects, graphics, presentations, and deliverables
  • Knowledge of best design practices for the development of online learning environments
  • Exceptional project management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks as aligned with current goals and to collaborate across stakeholder groups
  • Demonstrated ability to stay current with emerging pedagogies and technologies
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and training in instructional design, educational technology, or related field
  • 2+ years’ experience working directly with instructors or subject matter experts in the development of online courses
  • Knowledge of best practices in providing professional development for instructors in higher education and related fields
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, video editing, or graphic design
  • Knowledge of technical writing, content authoring, content organization, and content mapping
  • Familiarity with ADA compliance, accessibility, and Universal Design principles
