Description:
The Interior Design department at Pratt Institute is seeking a motivated, tech-savvy, detail-oriented Assistant to the Chairperson who will supervise office operations for the Interior Design department and assist the Chairperson with administrative duties related to the successful management of our BFA and MFA programs. The Assistant to the Chairperson will proactively identify and address the daily needs of the office to ensure smooth and responsive operation, handle departmental activities such as managing budget, overseeing student employees, shared studio spaces, social media accounts, and communication outreach.

The ideal candidate will be an organized, effective communicator with superior interpersonal and communication skills, able to write well, with experience working with budgets and accounting who is a flexible team player. The candidate will have excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Google Suite email, drive, forms and calendar, social media platforms), and a willingness and ability to learn new programs and platforms. Must have the ability to work well with diverse populations and demonstrated level of cultural competence. A design sensibility is an asset. On a typical day you will be required to:
  • Support the administrative needs of the Chair to ensure smooth running of daily operations including maintaining calendar; scheduling staff and faculty meetings as needed; coordinating departmental communication
  • In coordination with the Director of Finance; reconciling expenses, managing operations budget, tracking expenses, and processing payments
  • Coordinate with the Chair and Assistant Chairs on all departmental and Institute-wide and special events
  • Hire and oversee student employees in the office and studios
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications:
Education: Associates degree required, Bachelors preferred.

Experience: 2-3 years of administrative experience, preferably in a higher education environment.

Knowledge and Skills: Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Google Suite email, drive, forms and calendar, social media platforms), ability to learn new programs and platforms, superior interpersonal and communication skills, ability to write well, and experience working with budgets and accounting. Must have the ability to work well with diverse populations and demonstrated level of cultural competence. A design sensibility is an asset.
