Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder is searching for a Technology Buyer/Sales Floor Manager! This position exists to support the CU Book Store Technology Department sales floor, including customer assistance, product recommendation purchases, and use of all public-facing and service technology in the department. The incumbent will be responsible for managing all technical services offered, research and purchase of salable inventory, and occasionally assisting IT staff with maintenance of hardware, including seasonal deployment of registers and other computers for back-to-school. The successful candidate will assist in training, staffing, and supervision of student employees, and serve as an on duty manager during opening or closing shifts.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Tech Customer Support:
  • Assist customers with the choice of new computers, software, hardware, and accessories. Answer questions accurately on products available in-store, on campus, and online.
  • Assist with IT duties, including the setup of seasonal or special occasion hardware. Troubleshoot basic hardware and software issues.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining Tech Department pages on public website, and the departmental portal. Verify product listings and content are accurate and updated, as well as source product images, write product descriptions, and verify SKU accuracy.

Tech Services:
  • Handle services such as computer rentals, 3D printing, laser cutting, or third party computer repair intake. Handle and manage relationships with external service providers.
  • Handle supply and manufacture (via 3D printing) of custom or specialty parts for store fixtures. Handle inventory and maintain deployment of Electronic Shelf Labels store wide.
  • Plan and facilitate the offerings of the CU Book Store Tech Experience. Ensure safety protocols are met and maintain all equipment.
  • Research new creative opportunities and suggest new offerings and/or services.

Oversee Department and Staff:
  • Maintain clean and organized inventory stock, ensuring products are visible and easily locatable.
  • Ensure staffing needs are met, hiring and training new staff as needed.
  • Coordinate and adjust employee schedules based on workload and seasonal events.
  • Build and maintain manuals and procedures for staff.
  • Educate staff regarding service offerings and compile information regarding market offerings for employees.

Technology Department Buyer:
  • Research and maintain accurate knowledge regarding current trends in technology.
  • Research and purchase products to sell. Maintain market knowledge and make Technology purchases based on current trends.
  • Ensure adequate stock of all products is maintained. Determine minimum quantities of on hand and suggested products to replenish stock.
  • Work with vendors and their respective sales representatives to ensure orders have been accurately placed and filled.
  • Generate Purchase Orders and reorders for technology products, and transmit those orders to the appropriate vendors.

Customer Service and Sales Floor Functions:
  • Maintain knowledge of store offerings and their locations to best help customers.
  • Assist customers in all departments on the sales floor, maintaining the highest level of customer service. Assist staff in the handling and follow-up of difficult customer service issues.
  • Operate the Book Store Point of Sale software to facilitate customer purchases and refunds.
  • Operate as a Manager on Duty in the absence of other managers. Supervise the opening and closing of the sales floor as needed.

  • Work schedule may include some weekends and nights based on business and seasonal needs.
  • This position will primarily be in-person, with the possibility of some hybrid work.
What We Can Offer
  • The annual salary for this position is $38,000 - $40,000.

What We Require
  • Two years of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
  • Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
What You Will Need
  • The ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • An ability to work independently and in a team setting.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • 3 years retail experience.
  • Previous leadership or supervision experience.
  • Experience crafting and documenting policies and procedures.
  • Experience with Collegiate Retail Systems, such as Visual Ratex or NetSuite.
  • Solid understanding of retail technology sales. Familiarity with technology service offerings such as: 3D printing and model creation, as well as printer maintenance and support; Laser cutting and engraving; Support of rental and checkout computers, reimaging and support of various operating systems, including Windows, MacOS, and ChromeOS.
  • Experience with retail inventory management, including product recommendations or purchases.
