The Department of Communication Arts seeks applicants for a limited term faculty position for the 2022-2023 academic year beginning August 1, 2022.  This is a non-tenure track position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor.  The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses primarily in Conflict Management, Teams & Leadership, Communication Across Difference, and Communication, Culture, and Community, and other areas based on qualifications.

The VSU College of the Arts includes the Department of Art & Design, the Department of Music, and the Department of Communication Arts (Communication, Emergent Media, Mass Media, Public Relations, Theatre & Dance). The position will be responsible for teaching a 4/4 course load (fall/spring) in communication. This position is primarily responsible for teaching courses related to Conflict Management, Teams & Leadership, Communication Across Difference, and Communication, Culture, and Community. Introductory courses such as Public Speaking and Human Communication, and other teaching assignments based on qualifications, may also be part of the teaching load. Courses may be delivered in traditional, online, hybrid, and in off-campus formats. Faculty members are expected to make substantive contributions to the Department including department, university, and community service.


  • Master’s degree in Communication or related field;
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning;
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion.


  • D. in Communication or closely related field for rank of Assistant Professor;
  • A record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant’s career stage;
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting;
  • A record of mentoring students of diverse backgrounds.
