Department Summary
Oregon Folklife Network documents, supports, and celebrates Oregon's diverse cultural traditions and tradition-bearers. OFN conducts folklife fieldwork and works with communities, organizations, and Tribes to increase public awareness about Oregon's living cultural heritage. The Oregon Folklife Network serves as a hub for statewide folklife activities in partnership with the Oregon Arts Commission, Oregon Cultural Trust, Oregon Historical Society, Oregon State Library, and Oregon Heritage Commission, along with community partners including Tribes, community-based cultural organizations, museums, regional cultural alliances, local arts agencies, K-12 schools, universities and colleges, and public libraries.
Position Summary
Under the supervision of OFN Director, the Program Coordinator is responsible for implementing OFN folklife programming and community engagement, especially with Oregon's Spanish-speaking cultures. As well, the Program Coordinator oversees student employees, and contributes to grant writing, archiving, records management, and communications. The OFN supports the Program Coordinator to the degree they are interested in becoming directly involved in research, teaching, publishing, and presentations at public and academic conferences. Work is frequently performed independently and reviewed by the director through regular informal conversations or as problems occur. Position requires flexible hours including occasional evenings and weekends. This position has the potential to expand up to 1.0 FTE, and to continue after the limited duration.
Minimum Requirements
  • Two years of experience as an administrative specialist or executive support specialist, including administrative support for a project, program, or operation. Administrative support includes those duties beyond clerical/secretarial such as: interpretation of rules and regulations; administrative data collection and analysis; and evaluation of projects, processes, and operations;
  • OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Excellent computer skills (word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and web programs).

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, and ability handle a fluctuating workload with intermittent times of stress.
  • Flexible and able to adapt and adjust to participant needs and preferences
    Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in folklore or related field (e.g. ethnology, anthropology, ethnomusicology, ethnic studies, arts/non-profit/policy management)
  • Demonstrated ethnographic fieldwork experience
  • Lived or professional experience with Spanish-speaking communities, and deep understanding of the unique experiences and needs of these communities.
  • One year working in arts and culture
  • Experience with archives and/or records management
  • Supervisory experience
