Job Description

The Assistant-Associate Director of Athletics for External Relations promotes, enhances, grows, and cultivates the Griffon Athletics brand within the city, region, state, and country.

Missouri Western is an NCAA Division II i nstitution, which successfully competes in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association ( MIAA ) in 16 sports and Great Lakes Valley Conference ( GLVC ) in 1 sport.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
  • Builds the athletics brand within the city, region, stage and country; remaining visible and active in the community relations efforts.
  • Supervises departments within the external relations branch of athletics, including but not limited to the following departments: Creative Content, Sports Information, and Gameday Operations.
  • Serves as lead for Kansas City Chiefs summer camp in all planning and execution, acting as primary liaison with all university administrators.
  • Proposes and executes charity events (e.g. golf tournaments) and promotions (e.g. hit-a-thons) for the Athletics Department.
  • Engages and communicates with Goldcoat Club members in concert with the Office of Advancement; administers finances of Goldcoat Club.
  • Leads a coordinated effort for annual ticket sales and the full administration of benefits (e.g. premium seating, parking passes, etc.).
  • Partners with Office of Advancement for major and planned gifts for the Athletics Department.
  • Responsible for engaging and communicating with sponsors between solicitation drives and for executing sponsored events and activities.
  • Tracks contact reports in Blackbaud for all donor interactions and solicitations.
  • Coordinates athletics alumni events in concert with the Office of Advancement.
  • Support logistics of Director of Athletics in solicitation efforts, including but not limited to, event strategy, guest lists, RSVP progress, and seating chart.
  • Serve as sport supervisor for various sports as assigned by Director of Athletics.
  • As a member of the athletics senior administrative team, performs other duties of a similar nature.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent leadership and relationship building skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the MWSU Foundation and other internal leadership groups.
  • Strong sales skills.
  • Good public speaking skills.
  • Organized thinker with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in changing circumstances.
  • Proficient in fundraising content management systems (Blackbaud), Microsoft Office programs.
Required Qualifications
  • This position requires a professional degree in Business, Marketing, Sport Management, or a related field.
  • Must have five to seven years of experience in branding, public relations, or sales.
  • Prior experience with event planning and execution.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven ability to handle high stress situations, meet deadlines, and manage multiple responsibilities.
Physical Demands
  • General office conditions. Exposed to moderate noise levels.
  • May occasionally be exposed to inclement weather conditions and extreme temperatures.
  • Incumbents may, on rare occasions, be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, fumes, odors, dust, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, bodily fluids, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and working at height.
  • May occasionally be exposed to hazardous traffic conditions.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
