Job Description Summary

Wentworth Institute of Technology is seeking applicants interested in joining the Wentworth community as an Assistant Director for Student Conduct and Restorative Practices .

Under the direction of the Director for Student Conduct and Restorative Practice, the Assistant Director for Student Conduct and Restorative Practices will assist in the overall administration and operation of the Wentworth Institute of Technology Student Code of Conduct. This is a full-time position, with some flexibility for a hybrid work schedule on occasion . Most of the work will be conducted on campus, and some nights/weekends may be required.

Responsibilities will include coordination of the student discipline process; development of creative responses to student conduct issues; and implementation of a comprehensive educational process for helping the Wentworth community fully understand the Student Code of Conduct and their responsibilities as members of the community. The Assistant Director will also support the implementation of restorative practices across functional areas within the Division of Student Affairs. The Assistant Director will be responsible for overseeing the University’s bystander intervention (StepUp) programming/training.

The Assistant Director for Student Conduct and Restorative Practices will work to meet the vision of the Division of Student Affairs, Every Student Thrives. The Assistant Director contributes to the success of the Division of Student Affairs through committee assignments, special projects, and various training and development activities.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Director in investigating and coordinating student conduct cases, including but not limited to: reviewing referrals for potential violations of the Code, meeting with students, witnesses, and advisors to resolve cases, and assigning appropriate sanctions.
  • Serve as the coordinator of the University’s bystander intervention programs (Step Up) working in collaboration with other departments across campus. This includes passive and active programs. This also includes offering bystander intervention programs for faculty and staff. Step Up is a part of student leader training for those hired through a collaborative process.
  • Ensuring sanction compliance and administrating sanction follow-up and holds.
  • Serve as a resource to the campus community regarding the Student Code of Conduct, making presentations at New Student Orientation and Student Transitions events or Admissions events.

  • Bachelor’s Degree plus 3 years of experience in Higher Education, Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, or related field.

  • Experience managing confidential and sensitive information

  • Ability to conduct investigations, document findings and rationale, and maintain case files.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and external constituents.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, record keeping ability, technological skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
Advertised Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, or related field and 1-3 years of experience in higher education and/or student affairs
  • Previous training or work with Restorative Justice/Practices
  • Professional experience in student conduct in a college or university setting and demonstrated knowledge and/or experience with collegiate conduct systems.
  • Knowledge of concepts, principles, and practices of counseling, particularly as they apply to young adults.
  • Skilled in techniques and methodologies in administering student discipline and in handling crisis situations
  • Knowledge of student development theory and student applicable laws such as the Clery Act, Title IX, & the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination (Campus SaVE) Act, and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act ( FERPA ).
  • Willingness to work both with a team as well as individually, including thinking critically and making decisions independently.
  • Knowledge and experience with mediation, restorative justice, and other conflict resolution models.
  • Experience working with conduct database software, preferably Maxient.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills.
  • Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
  • Ability to evaluate and make recommendations for change in policy development.
  • Strong level of comfort with utilizing and learning new forms of technology.
  • Ability to conduct investigations and hearings.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with a commitment to high quality results, along with follow-through with responsibilities and communications in a timely manner.
