Postdoctoral Research Associate

About Northeastern:
Founded in 1898, Northeastern is a global research university and the recognized leader in experience-driven lifelong learning. Our world-renowned experiential approach empowers our students, faculty, alumni, and partners to create impact far beyond the confines of discipline, degree, and campus.

Our locations—in Boston; Charlotte, North Carolina; London; Portland, Maine; San Francisco; Seattle; Silicon Valley; Toronto; Vancouver; and the Massachusetts communities of Burlington and Nahant—are nodes in our growing global university system. Through this network, we expand opportunities for flexible, student-centered learning and collaborative, solutions-focused research.

Northeastern's comprehensive array of undergraduate and graduate programs— in a variety of on-campus and online formats—lead to degrees through the doctorate in nine colleges and schools. Among these, we offer more than 195 multi-discipline majors and degrees designed to prepare students for purposeful lives and careers.

About the Opportunity:
We are seeking several postdocs who can help immediately with a large-scale strategic initiative at Northeastern University focused on building and validating Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) training systems and apps in advanced manufacturing contexts. Specifically, we are seeking one postdoc focused on developing VR training led by Prof. Casper Harteveld; one postdoc focused on developing AR training led by Prof. Mohsen Moghaddam; and one postdoc focused on evaluating the training outcomes for both the VR and AR training, co-supervised by Prof. Casper Harteveld and Prof. Mohsen Moghaddam. The work will be highly interdisciplinary and require a quick turn-around; therefore, we are looking for candidates that perform well in a fast-paced dynamic teamwork environment. AR/VR development and validation will happen in close collaboration with end-users and with PhD students, master and undergraduate students, and professionals, so it is a unique opportunity for postdocs to get experience coordinating efforts and directly seeing the impact of their work.

Interested applicants should submit the following by September 15th, 2021: (1) CV, (2) Personal Statement, (3) Research Statement, and (4) Names of three references. The positions are for 1 year and are renewable contingent on performance and available funding. Positions will be filled asap after September 15th. Applications after the deadline are welcome and will be reviewed on an ongoing basis until the positions are filled.

Responsibilities:
Project Development, Publication and Grant Writing, Student Supervision

Qualifications:
We seek candidates who have a PhD in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science, Management Science, Industrial Engineering, Cognitive Science, Learning Science, or related areas. Successful candidates will have an interdisciplinary background and an interest in AR/VR training. All candidates should have demonstrated that they can publish in well regarded academic venues. Ideal candidates should demonstrate the knowledge of quantitative and qualitative methodologies and the ability to run experiments involving technology and people. Ideal candidates should also have experience with the Unity game engine and VR/AR. We will evaluate candidates on their ability to work in teams and in a fast-paced working environment.

Salary Grade:
10
