Part- Time Lecturer

About Northeastern:
Founded in 1898, Northeastern is a global research university and the recognized leader in experience-driven lifelong learning. Our world-renowned experiential approach empowers our students, faculty, alumni, and partners to create impact far beyond the confines of discipline, degree, and campus.

Our locations—in Boston; Charlotte, North Carolina; London; Portland, Maine; San Francisco; Seattle; Silicon Valley; Toronto; Vancouver; and the Massachusetts communities of Burlington and Nahant—are nodes in our growing global university system. Through this network, we expand opportunities for flexible, student-centered learning and collaborative, solutions-focused research.

Northeastern's comprehensive array of undergraduate and graduate programs— in a variety of on-campus and online formats—lead to degrees through the doctorate in nine colleges and schools. Among these, we offer more than 195 multi-discipline majors and degrees designed to prepare students for purposeful lives and careers.

About the Opportunity:
The Semester in Seattle Program: Design + Tech invites applications for a one semester opportunity to teach courses Design Process Context and Systems and Experience Design. A terminal degree in design or related field is required. We are looking for a scholar and/or practitioner with a focus on experience design, service design, or closely related areas.

Responsibilities:
This program integrates key courses in design, computer science, and entrepreneurship with wraparound experiential activities in the context of Seattle's ecosystem of creative innovation. You will be teaching the inaugural cohort of undergraduate students studying away from Boston at our otherwise all-graduate-student campus in Seattle and help us shape the program. The Semester in Seattle program is based at Northeastern's Seattle campus; located in the heart of downtown Seattle's South Lake Union neighborhood with views of the famous Space Needle and surrounded by Amazon's global headquarters.

Class descriptions:

Design Process Context and Systems
Explores common design practices, principles, and vocabularies, introducing the design process as a method of inquiry and problem solving through studio projects. Emphasizes the importance of an awareness of audience and context in the creation of meaningful communications and experiences. Explores the practice of design as an iterative process, offering students an opportunity to obtain an understanding of the value of systems thinking and the importance of feedback and exchange as a means for assessing the quality of design's effectiveness in helping users achieve their goals.

Experience Design 1
Investigates a wide range of design research methods and means of representing user intentions and actions in order to develop coherent designs based on the needs of the user. Includes use of context assessment, user experience audits, and scenario development as means to understand the motivations, behaviors, and values of audiences and participants.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have an MFA or equivalent terminal degree and at least two years of successful college teaching experience. Candidates must have the ability to effectively engage Northeastern students at course relevant levels of study, whether beginning, intermediate or advanced.

Salary Grade:
