Job Summary

The successful candidate will have the highest commitment to academic and scholarly standards. As an accomplished scholar, compelling candidates will be able to inspire faculty and students with a sense of pride and purpose, serve as an innovative leader to grow and build high quality programs serving the university, and provide a dedicated and established commitment to the advancement of honors education at UT Dallas.

The Dean will:

• Define and execute a strategic vision for the future by articulating the distinctive needs and opportunities of the Honors College
• Direct, coordinate, and expand the current programs dedicated to excellence in the Honors College and across the university.
• Support a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment with a nuanced understanding of the complexity of honors education across the university.
• Serve as a public voice for the Honors College's students, faculty, and staff.
• Identify emerging opportunities for interdisciplinary initiatives and innovative practices across the honors curriculum.
• Support the expansion of study abroad opportunities for honors students.
• Build upon existing and cultivate new internship programs for undergraduates.
• Represent the interests of UT Dallas and the Hobson Wildenthal Honors College in regional and national honors and honors college organizations.
• Create an environment that supports excellent teaching and education.
• Facilitate positive and engaging experiences for students.
• Take action to demonstrate a commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Minimum Education and Experience

The Dean should possess an earned Ph.D. and possess a record of recognized achievement in teaching, research, and service that would warrant a tenure appointment at the rank of Professor in one of the Schools at UT Dallas.


Preferred Education and Experience

The Dean should possess an earned Ph.D. and possess a record of recognized achievement in teaching, research, and service that would warrant a tenure appointment at the rank of Professor in one of the Schools at UT Dallas. Desired qualifications include administrative experience at the equivalent of at least departmental leadership.

Compelling candidates will possess:

• The ability, in collaboration with the faculty and other administrative leaders, to articulate a vision for the College and to develop and realize a plan to achieve this vision.
• Experience in recruiting, supporting, and cultivating a distinguished, accomplished, and diverse faculty and staff.
• The ability to articulate the Honors College's goals, accomplishments, and needs to a broad range of external constituencies, including alumni, academic and government representatives, and the business and industrial communities.
• Demonstrated experience in honors education at other universities or colleges.
• A commitment to attracting and supporting excellent students and a dedication to creating a diverse, open, and inclusive environment in undergraduate education.
• A passion for facilitating the success of others, including faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders.
• The intellectual leadership and curiosity to provide honors education across all disciplines.
• Leadership with outstanding communication and strong interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead by consensus and with transparency.
• The ability to think with agility across a broad spectrum of ideas and disciplines.
• Experience in building collaborations within a school, a university, and the larger academic community; and
• Impeccable personal and professional integrity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The University of Texas at Dallas seeks an innovative and experienced leader to serve as its next Dean of the Hobson Wildenthal Honors College.

Working closely with the Provost, the Dean of the Hobson Wildenthal Honors College will have the primary responsibility for administrating and strengthening the programs and classes offered by the Honors College and assisting in the development of honors education across the university.

About the Hobson Wildenthal Honors College
The Hobson Wildenthal Honors College at The University of Texas at Dallas, established in 2014, houses a variety of programs dedicated to promoting excellence in undergraduate education. There are 5 full-time faculty and 10 full-time staff members located in the Honors College and serving over 1200 students from across the university. Dozens of additional university faculty are affiliated with the Honors College through teaching courses and participating in mentoring programs sponsored by the Honors College.
