Research Technologist

The Adamo Cardiac Immunology Lab is seeking a Research Technologist to assist with ongoing research projects. Responsibilities will include: perform routine lab processes, maintain animal colony under close supervision, follow routine protocols under close supervision, operate standard equipment, use standard procedures for specific laboratory tests and preparation techniques, review and analyze registry data from ongoing projects under close supervision.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain breeding colony of multiple mouse strains, including record keeping and genotyping.
  • Administer drugs to research animals via gavage or injection and harvest primary tissue specimens according to protocols.
  • Aid manager with laboratory support related tasks and biosafety adherence.
  • Basic cell culture work including isolation and culture of primary cells, maintenance of immortalized cell lines and cell counting.
  • Molecular Biology techniques like western blot, protein purification, RNA/ DNA extraction, western blotting, ELISA, gene knock-in or out, transfection and transformation.
  • Flow cytometry analysis of cardiac and related immune cells.
  • Monitors inventory levels, orders materials and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Assist with organizing materials for publication or presentation.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

    Bachelor Degree in one of the Biological Sciences, Immunology, Molecular Biology or related area, acquired by the first day on duty.

Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
