REPORTS TO: Director, Financial Aid

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administers and manages the Title IV Federal Work Study Program through the recruitment, hiring, and placement of Federal Work Study (FWS) students.
  • Collaborates with The Office of Human Resources, Payroll, and the FWS supervisors to ensure that students are following federal and institutional regulations and policies.
  • Creates forms and written policies and procedures for FWS to be published on the Financial Aid Office website, FWS manual, and assists in the maintenance of the FWS section of the department website.
  • Evaluates the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) of students, and provides SAP advising through the knowledge of federal Title IV regulations.
  • Collaborates with the Middlesex College Foundation office to administer the Institutional Scholarship Program.
  • Prepares scholarship reports necessary for the Middlesex College Foundation's operation.
  • Reconciles scholarships by Fund.
  • Evaluates and analyzes financial aid applications and documentation for students selected for Federal, State, or Institutional verification and processes student files in accordance with Federal, State, and Institutional guidelines using financial aid related software and databases.
  • Assists students and parents with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. Counsels and advises students and prospective students about financial aid eligibility, procedures, verification, and award processes.
  • Provides support, education, and counsels students, prospective students, parents, and the general campus community regarding the financial aid process, eligibility, procedures and maintains appropriate supporting documentation. Upon finding discrepancies in any information received, initiates follow-up to ensure accurate awarding.
  • Processes student files and prepares award packages in accordance with Federal, State, and Institutional policies.
  • Manages confidential information in accordance with FERPA.
  • Conducts on and off campus presentations, workshops, and other forms of outreach.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bachelor's Degree
    • Four years of experience in one area of student services, such as financial aid, admissions, registration, enrollment services, or student records
    • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced work environment, with demonstrated multitasking and problem-solving skills
    • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to work independently and within a team-oriented setting, use discretion, and apply judgment


    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office, enterprise resource planning tools, and the FAA Access to CPS, COD, and NSLDS
    • Thorough knowledge of Federal and New Jersey State financial aid policies
    • Knowledge of Colleague (Ellucian) computer system or a similar platform, experience in the use of technology, query software, and financial aid databases and tools such as FAA access to CPS, NSLDS, and COD
    SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

    SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with occasional evenings and weekends
    Must be willing to travel
