Position Summary
A key member of the University Housing Facility Manager team, this position reports to the Director, Housing Facilities Services. This position has primary responsibilities for facilities services in support of University family housing and apartments, with secondary responsibility for residence halls, dining, and kitchens. Family Housing, and Apartments.

This position directly supervises eight classified staff, including trades maintenance, custodial, laborer, grounds maintenance, and facilities services coordinator personnel. This position directs the work contract and vendor resources in the performance of the operation, maintenance, and change of occupancy services of Family Housing and Apartments. This position oversees approximately three student staff members with an additional six student staff during the summer, along with summer seasonal temporary maintenance, custodial, and labor crews.

This position ensures highly responsive customer service, cost effectiveness, timeliness, code compliance, and adherence to industry standards and practices while accomplishing facilities services.

This position plans, budgets, directs, and documents scheduled, preventative, and corrective maintenance, grounds maintenance, and custodial operations. Responsibilities include accomplishing building standards and safety inspections and surveys to gather and prioritize maintenance requirements. For work involving contractors and vendors, this position is responsible for the preparation of statements of work, specifications, and schedules as well as collaboration with University business operations and acquisition offices to solicit, award, oversee, inspect, and fiscally and contractually closeout facilities work and services.

This position works cooperatively and collaboratively with staff within University Housing, Campus Planning and Facilities Management, Safety, and Risk Services, and other institutional stakeholders to assure the integration of campus users and complete participation on each repair or maintenance effort.

This position is responsible for planning and execution of an annual budget of approximately $1 million annually.
Minimum Requirements
  • 3 years' facilities maintenance experience supervising journey or generalist staff in a large complex of commercial/institutional buildings.
  • 2 years' experience with a minimum of one of the following areas: grounds maintenance, custodial operations coordination, painting, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC), or Refrigeration Systems maintenance/repair.

  • Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, in support of an inclusive and welcoming environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage tasks where successful collaboration and coordination with other supervisors was essential due to operating conditions, with an understanding of collaborative decision making.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a Computerized Maintenance Management System.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate multiple work requirements and prioritize accomplishment in accordance with life, health, safety, housing resident, customer, and academic mission impacts
  • Demonstrated ability to manage several requirements or projects simultaneously
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of windows based personal computer applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of scheduling software, such as MS Project. Experience must have been within the past five (5) years.
    Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in university residential or higher education facilities, especially in a setting where duties were performed as a member of a supervisory team serving diverse operations such as food service, customer service, and housing.
  • Experience in residential facility and property management, including residence halls, dining facilities, apartments, condominiums, and single-family homes.
  • Experience writing specifications and supervising maintenance projects ranging from $2,500 - $1,000,000.
  • Experience working with employees in a collective bargaining unit.
